To think being compared to Mira Hindley is quite offensive??

Sitting in the hair dressers today discussing what I wanted doing and the hairdresser said "You actually have a bit of a Mira Hindley thing going on!" everyone burst out laughing, I laughed nervously (that gobsmacked, didn't know what else to do) and then another hairdresser said "oh yeah you do! you do look like Mira Hindley!" as if it was a compliment!

I didn't say anything but am now kind of wishing I did? or aibu?

Out of all the blonde women they could have chosen, it is a bit odd to choose that particular woman.

I wouldn't be too chuffed if they were talking about the staring eyes picture of her.

fastweb · 02/07/2011 13:55

Marketing 101

Avoid comparing customers to serial killers.

PandorasFox · 02/07/2011 14:05

He wasn't even on about my hair, he said "across the eyes" Hmm

Well it depends what you think of her looks I suppose
Agree it;s an odd thing to do!

LineRunner · 02/07/2011 14:10

That was a tacky comment to make. One of the parents of Hindley's victims is still searching for the body of her lost son.

Maybe it depends where you live. Really not funny in the north-west.

PinkSchmoo · 02/07/2011 14:14

Not quite offensive. Very fucking offensive.

I can only hope that the individual who thought you looked like Myra hindley about the eyes had no idea who she was.

Bonitas · 02/07/2011 14:15

What an odd thing to say! I can't imagine that anyone would be happy being compared to Myra Hindley. I have only ever seen one image of her - the one with the staring eyes.

V tasteless. What a stupid thing to say. It's obe of those situations where you wished you'd said something but are too gobsmacked to then it's too late. Find new hairdresser.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 02/07/2011 14:24

It's a stupid thing to say but if you take away the child killer and just look at Myra Hindley's 'looks', that's probably what the hairdresser meant... strong features, etc.

When my hair's rough dried at the hairdressers, it bears more than a passing resemblance to Boris Johnson's... I can never wait for the straighteners to be applied. Blush

YANBU, I can't wait to change my passport. I really do look like the late Ms Hindley.

LineRunner · 02/07/2011 14:27

"Ooooh, you look just like that iconic arrest photo of Britain's most infamous female serial child murderer, who died whilst incarcerated, infamously still lying her face off"???

Nice hairdresser.

AgentZigzag · 02/07/2011 14:29

'Marketing 101

Avoid comparing customers to serial killers.'

That really made me lol Grin

It makes it worse that they were talking about your eyes, hardly something you can do anything about. What was the purpose of them pointing it out to you??

'I can only hope that there is a breakthrough and they find Keith Bennett's body very soon.. He needs to be brought home.'

Totally agree Sad

LordOfTheFlies · 02/07/2011 14:34

Someone told me that my DS has the look of John Venables.
Should I have thrown him onto the floor and punched him a few times (not my DS the other person)

Disclaimer; my boy is a sweet child and I didn't think he was suggesting my PFB was a child killer Hmm

TidyDancer · 02/07/2011 14:39

It's one thing to think a person looks like someone like Hindley, it's quite another to say it. I happen to know someone who bares more than a passing resemblence to her actually, but I wouldn't even dream of saying anything about it. The lookalike is a sweet and kind person who would likely be incredibly hurt. Just wtf was that hairdresser thinking?!

biddysmama · 02/07/2011 14:41

"you know its funny you said that cos i was just thinking that you looked a bit like hitler, but i was too polite to say..."

LineRunner · 02/07/2011 14:42

What on earth is the fucking point of telling someone that they, or one of their chuildren, looks like an infamous serial killer? I mean, just what is the POINT?

This is the work of fuckwits.

PandorasFox · 02/07/2011 14:43

pmsl @ Hitler!

Just tell me you're never going back there again though. Please

AgentZigzag · 02/07/2011 14:44

That's such an insensitive and thoughtless remark Lord.

How did you react?

As if you were going to say 'Yeah! I can see it now you've said hahaha'?

biddysmama · 02/07/2011 14:45

"yeah, shes my cousin..."

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 02/07/2011 14:48

Were you wearing lots of kohl or other eyeliner on your lower lids?

If it's any consolation, in her infamous interview with Martin Bashir, Princess Di had a look 'across the eyes' of the odious Hindley.

While on the subject of the child killer, I have a friend

Bonitas · 02/07/2011 14:53

Come to think of it, when I'm in the hairdressers with that black gown under my chin and the non flattering spot lights - I tend to look like somebody off Britain's Most Wanted.
