...to expect a parasol base to be included with a garden table, 4 chairs and parasol?

Got the above garden set from Home Base. But there's a piece of paper saying "Please note that parasols should be used in conjunction with a table and parasol base for stability." Further down it says "Store in a dry place, or use a protective cover when not in use."

Then it says "Bases and covers available separately."

No base in the set. But I need one before I can use my garden set properly! I was planning on getting a cover, but not yet.

Cue one further trip to Home Base to find they want you to pay a further £24.99 for a parasol base. DH took it to Store Manager level, and they eventually sold it to him for £15.

Now he is thinking of contacting Trading Standards and vowing never to set foot in a Home Base again.

When I was discussing this with DS, DS seemed to imply parasol bases are always sold separately - is this the case, does anyone know?

How would you decorate the bottle stleger?

Perhaps I'd put holes in the bottle, and have flowers coming out of it? Or alternatively rig something up with our Christmas tree stand, currently living beside the shed door -Grin

why on earth would you go to trading standards when it clearly stated the base wasn't included on the box?

ime, parasol bases are always sold separately so you can choose they style you want, ie metal, plastic, hole in the ground etc.

i'd imagine homebase may be kind of glad if you decide never to set foot in the place again.

I work in a similar business. why would you assume a base was included? even when you buy parasols they dont include bases. bases range from 25 to hundreds of pounds.

yabu from buying from a shop like that in the first place!

I bought a parasol a while ago over the internet and it stated that no base was included (managed to get a really cheap plastic one which you can't see under the table anyway) and it did surprise me.

I would however assume that if you were buying a set of table, chairs and parasol that in those cases the base would be included, otherwise it's not much of a set is it if you can't use one part of it!

What does that mean Knittedbreast? BTW I managed to get my base for about £7.

I just want a garden big enough to put a parasol in.
OP I think you know YABU
