AIBU to be worried? WWYD?

While brushing DD's hair on Tursday she started a conversation that went like this.

DD "My friend wears a bra."
Me: No she doesn't! You're all only 3/4/5 years old.
DD Her Mummy doesn't listen
Me: What do you mean?
DD: She says no but her Mum puts it on her anyway.

I keep thinking on this. It doesn't sit right. I'm well aware that there could be a thousand different explaiantions for what DD told me her friend said.

Maybe it's got lost in translation between the kids? Maybe I'm reading it wrong? I just can't shake the feeling that maybe this girl is being forced into a bra by her Mum.

I'm not trying to get anyone in trouble but I'd hate to think that there's a little girl going through something bad and I should have said something.

Maybe she is being forced into a bra because she has started puberty early? I know a 6 year old who wears a bra because of that (a cropped top really)

Could be! See? A thousand explanations...

I should add that they're all at nursery.

Is it a bikini top, and she calls it a bra?

Bikini? (really can't see the point of bikinis on preschool as they don't have anything to cover up, but some do)

I remember a woman I worked with years ago. She had a daughter of maybe 3 who she brought pictures in of her dressing up. Mainly in stockings etc,there was a deathly silence as people looked at them & at each other. I think someone had a word with her as in WTF??! She left shortly after,I'd forgotten all about it until reading that. Hope there was nothing dodgy there,think she was just quite batty & thought it was kind of bugsy malonish.

Children that age say all sorts of things.

DH is away for the weekend and my heart stopped in the car when DS said "Oh I meant to tell everyone that Daddy has left, is he going to live somewhere else Mummy?", primarily because his friends Mum and Dad have split up and has obviously made the mental association.

If you are bothered get the girl round for a play date and meet the Mum, but really I wouldn't say anything to anybody as it sounds improbable that anything bad is going on.

Dh told his mum they were being taught wrestling during PE lessons in Reception. MIL is 84 but she still cringes at the memory of how she went fuming into the school.

Yes or maybe mum has been dressing it up as a bra because thats what she wears - as in I have to wear my bra everyday too?

Or maybe the friend has says vest and your DD has translated it as a bra?

Everything gets lost in translation at this age - especially as parents are trying every trick/bribe in the book as they assert their independence.

He found pants uncomfortable so I suggested boxers, which I wear female ones. Forgot saying 'just like mummies' would get added in everytime he mentioned he now had boxers.

I told my aunt that my dad wore my mum's dress once. WhaT I actually was referring to was how my dad would put on my mum's dressing gown if I had to get up in the night, as he only slept in his boxers!

But do agree it is worth looking into, a playdate might be a good idea as suggested earlier.

Thanks for re-assuring me everyone. This is the first time any of my kids have said anything like that to me and no matter how many times I tried to put it to the back of my mind I kept thinking on it and needed to run it by someone, so thanks! I'll see about a play date!
