to think that AIBU should be for AIBU questions?

When I first stumbled on AIBU, I read lots of fascinating stories about family feuds, disputes with neighbours, wedding arguments, play group challenges etc.

Recently I feel I've seen lots of questions that I wouldn't really class as AIBU, but more general questions eg requests for holiday info, health questions, or boasting "AIBU to really proud of this" etc, often prefaced by words like "I know this doesn't belong in AIBU, but I'm going to ask you anyway ....."

I know that if I had more discipline I could focus on the threads that interest me, instead of reading almost all of them (blush at admitting I have so much free time on my hands!!) but wonder if others feel that AIBU has gone a bit off tangent?

I agree- there was a thread of unoriginal and unamazing things said by toddlers masquerading as AIBU earlier.

I said that on a thread earlier and got a good kicking for spoiling all the cutesey on the thread.

So YANBU, obviously. People are too lazy to find the right place.

I've looked on AIBU again tonight and I think it's even worse.............lots of stuff that isn't remotely AIBU

redwineformethanks just because you do not like where some people post does not give you the right to harass or bully them when they post. Who are you - the thread police. Has it never occurred to you that some people are new to this forum and unsure about where to post. Your replies and attitude could put people of posting again.

Depends on what the thread is about IMO. AIBU has the highest traffic and if you want an answer to a genuine query then I don't think there is anything wrong with posting here. I am still waiting nearly 1 hour later for just response to my thread asking for advice on the work board. It isn't a flippant thread about pineapples/parking/the price of cheese but as it doesn't begin with AIBU I haven't posted it here. Perhaps the "rules" should be a little clearer so that more traffic passes through the other boards/forums.

What good does reporting it do? If I had posted my thread on AIBU and it had been moved by someone who had decided I didn't have the right to post here, then I still would have no reply!

Flipping heck, I've not looked at your thread, but it's a bit impatient to expect a query within an hour on any forum. Especially if it's a specialist thing. Who was it who regularly used to marshall people to go through unanswered threads in an act of goodwill and public spiritedness?

Enraha - yes I am being a bit impatient, can be frustrating through when you know you could have a response in a minute or two on AIBU!

Maryz - Hopefully the other boards/forums (not sure what term to use!) will get some more "traffic". Difficult one I suppose. AIBU is popular, for obvious reasons, time will tell I think! Perhaps they can give out some sort of slapped wrist badge for the naughty people who post about pineapples and films (usually me ).

I started a thread along these lines about AIBU a couple of days ago and mnhq seem to want to do something about it.

The "this is the busiest topic" argument is irrelevant. Many people hate aibu and hide it altogether. It has a deserved reputation for being the least intelligent area of the site.

I was subjected to a mouthful of abuse by one particularly tetchy poster when I said her thread was not an AIBU. She said "I can post wherever I like", mnhq came on immediately and told her they were moving her thread to Chat and asked people to report non-AIBU threads to them from now on. They have moved a couple I have reported today.

And then the tetchy poster who seems to think she owns the place started a thread whingeing about her Aibu thread being moved to Chat. And lots of people came on and said, well, actually ... we agree it should have been moved, too many very silly people cannot be arsed to use the site in an intelligent way.

I don't think I am guilty of bullying. I just think that AIBU should be kept for AIBU questions.

Even if this is the busiest thread, I don't think that means that it should be cluttered up with non AIBU questions

YANBU. I suggest a campaign to answer any random-and-not-really-AIBU thread with "YABU to post that question here". If we all do it, the random posters should get the point.

YANBU, startin g a thread in AIBU about tea or first records or some other non-AIBU topic just because it "gets the most traffic" is lazy and a bit dim. use the other forums, that should raise the traffic. if you have a work query, post it in employment. if everyone did that, employment would be busier.

it pisses me off and Im glad MNHQ are dealing with it, otherwise mn would become AIBU, and that will be pretty shit.

What a horribly pompous and patronising post bibbity, 'I've appointed myself head hall monitor to ensure everyone follows the letter of AIBU law'.

Other posters opinions are whinging, tetchy and unintelligent compared to the way you think things should be done are they?

All those things could equally be applied to your post.
