To give DS(3) breast milk?

WinterSnow · 23/06/2011 18:49

I don't mean directly from the breat but I'm breast feeding DS2 (6 months) and sometimes express. DS1 always pesters me for some so I sometimes give him some in a tippee cup as I imagine it's prob quite good for him, am I being weird and unreasonable?!

No go for it, Smile

HettyAmaretti · 23/06/2011 18:52

YANBU or weird, definitely not. I'm sure it'll do him good as well as being good for his relationship with DS2.

CareyHunt · 23/06/2011 18:53

You are not being weird!

Plenty of 3 year olds are still getting it direct from source. Your breast milk still has nutritional value for your 3 year old, and you are probably avoiding all sorts of sibling rivalry.

FetchezLaVache · 23/06/2011 18:53

I think that's lovely!

CareyHunt · 23/06/2011 18:53

Ooops...x-post with Hetty!

happy2bhomely · 23/06/2011 18:53

Nope! Certainly no weirder than a cup of cows milk! Don't know much about the benefits, but there can't be any harm in doing at all.

WinterSnow · 23/06/2011 18:54

Ah thanks guys. Obviously I don't think I'm being weird but wondered what others would make of it. It's reassuring to know I'm not being judged!

I did the same last year when DS, then 3, was very run down.

He loved it, said it was much yummier than fridge milk!

dolldaggabuzzbuzz · 23/06/2011 19:56

YANBU to give DS his own mummy milk. YABU to refuse him your milk at age 3!

melpomene · 23/06/2011 20:01

I agree YANBU and that it's less weird than giving milk from a cow if you think about it. I bfed dd2 until she was 4.

AchtungBaby · 23/06/2011 20:07

YANBU.

squeezemebakingpowder · 23/06/2011 20:13

Really lovely YANBU

moonstorm · 23/06/2011 20:21

I do this. My milk is for my children. YANBU Smile

GreenTeapot · 23/06/2011 20:24

I did this last year when DS was really unwell. He said it made him feel all better :).

Much less weird than an adult human drinking milk from a cow!

oldraver · 23/06/2011 20:54

DS (5) would still have breastmilk if it up to him

MeconiumHappens · 23/06/2011 21:01

why not, its good healthy stuff.

mawbroon · 23/06/2011 21:01

Not weird and unreasonable at all, and neither would be letting him have it directly from the breast.

AuntiePickleBottom · 23/06/2011 21:07

yanbu, go for it

WinterSnow · 23/06/2011 21:20

Do you think it would have health benefits even at 3 years old? He doesn't eat meat (we're not vegetarian, he just won't eat it) so maybe it would be a good source of iron?

OP posts:
5DollarShake · 23/06/2011 21:22

Well, if cow's milk has nutritional value at that age, then why wouldn't human milk?

Meglet · 23/06/2011 21:26

yanbu. I split my last batch of expressed BM between DD (then 7 mo) and DS (was 2.5yo).

fuzzpigFriday · 23/06/2011 21:30

Go for it! Around the world plenty of 3yos are BFing anyway. It's still good stuff. Though don't be alarmed if his poo gets a bit runny/yellowy after having it regularly!

Don't be insulted if he doesn't like it though, my DD drank one cup and refused it thereafter :o

NorksAreMessy · 23/06/2011 21:31

Another one saying go for it. Who is being harmed? Nobody!

skybluepearl · 23/06/2011 21:32

go 4 it

NoobyNoob · 23/06/2011 21:32

Do it, I think it's a lovely thing to do and something that I'd do, too.

(lots of to's and do's in that post!)
