What are peoples opinions on dating their doctor?

I know it doesn't happen that often but sometimes it does. I may be starting a relationship with my GP but the rules clearly state that he may no longer be my practitioner ever again. He is significantly older then me. I have concerns of how I can ever lead a normal life with people asking me questions about it? Has anyone ever dated their doctor and can it work?
