I was stopped by a bloke. He said where do I know you from?" I mentioned a few firms. He said "Ok" and went on....I am up here on my own and my brother is ill in Southampton . I dont have the rail fare to get down there.
He told the tale well, I gave him a quid....He told it well, because he had done it many times, I suppose. It sort of amused me.

More worriyng was youngish kids begging for their bus fare home.

I still give to people on occasions. But it is food for thought.

I gave a couple of quid (when I was earning enough to have it 'spare') to a man apparently out of petrol in Clapham on his motorbike. He was Italian, and I was on the other side of the Junction so he pushed his bike over to me in the rain and asked "how come you stopped for me?" in a very bemused way.

I just said it was because I hoped someone would do the same for me one day if I needed it.

And that was true.
