Just seen this on the news . Unfortunately it's probably the poor ward staff who'll get it in the neck from the hospital management for causing an embarrassment.

I bet they are all in hysterics.

I bloody hate people going for photo ops on the ward and tramping in their horrid germs.

We had to beat the feckers off with a stick when DD was on oncology ward.

One tv crew just walked into our room with the camera on.

I had to kick them out. They didnt listen when I aske them to leave. They kept saying 'oh its ok we just want some shots'

It was clear as day it the doctors perogative to have a go...he seemed justified and David Cameron did seem mortified, it should not be the ward staff who get in trouble. No one should actually, the doctor had a very valid point, hospitals shouldn't be a place for PR opportunities but places of convalescence

Yes pam they were insensitive twats. DD was very very ill and 14 years old. She didnt want her best friends to see her let alone a bunch of strangers looking for a tear jerking photo op.

I nearly killed them. They did look a bit suprised to see a mad woman flying at them telling them to fuck off in a very quiet but menacing voice.

Tbh DH always hates it when they parade people through the hospital for PR opportunities (his is a regional centre of excellence so they are always flashing camera crews thro)
He doesn't mind speaking to the press about stuff he's passionate about (and does regularly) but doesn't like doing it at the hospital especially politicians using patients as a sympathetic backdrop

We had some nice slebs visit. Kelly Holmes was lovely. She spoke to all the kids one by one and spent ages with them. I have a lovely pic of her and DD together.

Dr Fox however is a knob. He used to rock up at Christmas (cos the kids dont need any attention off peak do they?) and sit in the middle of the table with the kids gathered around him. Holding court with a bunch of 3-12 year olds who didnt have a clue who he was

You get to know who is doing it for themselves and who does it for the kids.

I know someone v.famous very well and they do a lot of visiting and no one knows about it.

MPs and PMs can feck right off IMO. What possible reason have the got apart from showboating.

I got very lairy after two years living in hospital with DD. I used to tell everyone to wash their bloody hands.

People are so lazy.

One woman was merrily coming into the ward with armfuls of notes from all over the hospital. I asked her to wash her hands. She said 'I am only bring these in'.
Yes but you have been in and out of half a dozen wards already 'only' bringing these in'

Visitors would do the same. How HARD is it to wash your hands.

When I went to visit one of my parents in hospital earlier this year, I obsessively washed my hands. On the way in, when I got to the end of the bed, on the way out, etc. I got weird looks. And I was the only one doing it.

Why is it so bloody difficult to get through to people about this?!

I still dont know. After watching it happen in four different hosptials over two years I still cant work it out.

The hospitals make it so easy too. Mind you I was also the annoying person who used to tell the staff that the dispensers by the door were empty. Over and over and over till they got them refilled.
But then when your child's life may depend on it you are pretty motivated.

Yes, I don't blame you for a second for being proactive about it, I barked at staff about the dispensers, I would've been absolutely raging in your situation. I really do think you're right about the "it doesn't apply to me" point as well.
