I think you've drunk too much caffeine today ziggers

worraliberty · 11/06/2011 22:15

In the machine Grin

icecreaminmyhair · 11/06/2011 22:16

You have to do a trial wash. Decide which ten things you would like to ruin and just go for it.

SongBirdsKeepSinging · 11/06/2011 22:27

I am terrible and don't bother sorting at all I just bung it all in

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 11/06/2011 22:28

YANBU. White cotton pyjama tops with blue sleeves. Red dresses with white collars. Why?

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 11/06/2011 22:29

Oh, I also do a 'brights' wash.

MarionCole · 11/06/2011 22:31

DH has a polo shirt that is white with a red collar. What am I meant to do with that?

SongBirdsKeepSinging · 11/06/2011 22:32

One of those colour catch thingy me bobs?

Do they really work???

squeakytoy · 11/06/2011 22:36

I do darks, whites, and then save all the striped and mixed pastels for a 30% wash of their own.

Its the handwash only stuff that annoys me. My machine has a handwash cycle on it, but it still ruined one of my best frocks.

michelleseashell · 11/06/2011 22:42

Hand wash in the sink in cold water. But yes I agree, total ball ache

DinosaurRumpus · 11/06/2011 22:44

Dark rugby shirts with white collars are the worst. They always end up with dingy grey collars...

LynetteScavo · 11/06/2011 22:46

Those "layered" items consisting of a pretend white cotton shirt sewn onto a navy jumper throw me. I bought one once. Never again.

AgentZigzag · 11/06/2011 22:54

Arf at total ball ache Grin

I had 5 long years of handwashing my clothes michelle, I refuse on principle to do even one item.

YELLOW clothes ARGH

IShallWearMidnight · 11/06/2011 23:13

White, light, bright, dark, towels, bedding are the only washing categories anyone needs. Wrt "mixed" items, go with the majority so the white collar-bright body top is bright, the White rugby shirt with red sleeves is white, and do on.
Alternatively only allow one colour per person and locate them each a day

Hand wash only is the work of the devil and items marked as such should be burned

Happymm · 11/06/2011 23:15

Can just say-Colour Catchers. All you need, can bung anything in and all comes out as it should :)

BehindLockNumberNine · 11/06/2011 23:16

I do a dark load, a white load and an 'everything inbetween' load. Works a treat Smile

chipmonkey · 11/06/2011 23:17

I do whites, lights, brights darks and nappies. With brights and mixed items I also bung in a colour catcher sheet.

fruitshootsandheaves · 11/06/2011 23:20

I have a terrible confession about my washing ...

I used my tumble drier today Shock
I just couldn't face hanging out 948549572490587 pairs of socks and knickers
Don't tell DH he'll moan about the electricity
Feel better for my confession

michelleseashell · 11/06/2011 23:44

I used to do all my washing by hand too. Only two years long service here though. Oh the glee when I finally got a washing machine! Hand washing does give you dye terrors though

AgentZigzag · 11/06/2011 23:54

Two years though michelle, that's still a feat.

Doing bath towels and sheets in the bath and trying to wring them out so they'd only take 3 days to dry on the clothes airer was fear inducing.

I felt so modern when I moved house and got a machine, fuck, even a mangle would have helped at the time Grin

Whites and lights go in together, unless I have SO much washing that there's enough for a full load. 'Brights' and patterns in together. Darks/things that don't matter much like pants and socks, whatever colour they are, all in together. Oh, and my towels go in with whatever colour they are, unless I have lots at a time.

HATE those tops with white sleeves and a fake T-shirt over the top - the sleeves are always grubby after the first wear. Gggrr.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 12/06/2011 07:48

I only have 2 loads. White and not white. Works for me!
