surely it means "any old granny" in a "doesn't matter if it is a relation of yours, but find a granny and get them into gransnet", rather than "any old granny" - ie any old woman?

it does say, after all, "your mum, your MIL, or any old granny" - think cockney chirpy, rather than ageist.

any old granny isn't really a reference to age though, is it, it's really just another way of saying 'any random granny'.
