My sister said to me 2mths ago to ask DH about finding out about a vacancy at DHs work for BIL.

I told DH and he said what I thought
'He won't be able to do that job'

Anyway last night DH said that the company are advertising for DSO engineers again (what DH does) so told sister. She's text me this morning saying 'ask DH for number for BIL for job'

I'm waiting on DH getting back to me with the number but I can't help but think if BIL goes for this job, he won't last it out or he'll get sack :/

A few weeks ago DH did my mums aerial for her (that's what he does) BIL said 'do you need any help?' DH said 'he'd get it done fast if he could help feed the wire to where he needed it.

As soon asa DH removed the loft hatch BIL was gone, back over home gardening (sister live across from mum) I said to BIL when I realised where he was, and he said 'I don't like lofts or ladders'

But yet he wants to apply for a postition which is a Digital Aerial Engineer - he's going to be using ladders 8/10 a day!!!

He is clumsy and such an idiot when it comes to tools. In 3 weeks he's broken 2 lawn mowers, screwdriver, a shed key, lost a pair of pliers and damaged some bush cutters!

I would give all the details. Let the boss decide who he wants to hire/fire. If you don't give it a rift could be caused. Not worth the hassle IMO.

Would it amuse you if he got the job and failed. It would amuse me because I don't like my ILs so I would be happy if they fucked up fell on their faces.
I think if it would reflect badly on your DH, I wouldn't be inclined to help BIL.
If your BiL is serious about it, he could surely find out the numbers himself?

I wouldn't be keen. Give the details but ensure the BIL doesn't mention that DH put the details forward to him

If the boss decides he's worth hiring then that's his decision. I think it would be unfair to try and preempt the boss' decision and actively prevent your BIL getting a job.

As long as the company uses fair selection then there is no problem passing on the job details. Don't worry about it, just pass the information on.

Next time he asks for the number just laugh and say "I didn't actually think you were serious?! Why on earth would you want to apply for the job when you hate ladders and lofts"

Well this is another issue I have raised with my sis!

He doesn't have a car because insurance is approx 2k per month for him due to his past driving history, he wrote off a brand new car 8 weeks after buying it racing out of work, he was doing 70 mph on. 40 road onto the motorway, lost control and hit a lamppost! All he remembers is waking up finding firefighters cutting the roof off. My DH had to drive to Lincoln for his interview, which was test like, then had 2 weeks training in warrington. Also he's got a company van, if its scratched, dented, damaged or whatever the engineer pays for it. It comes out your wages. With his driving history this could be a big downfall for him to getting sacked.

No I don't want him to fail as its my sister and nephew who'll suffer due to loss of earnings. I just don't think bil has the confidence to do this job but sis made out I was been nasty when I said 'I don't think BIL could do that job'

Surely if the job has been posted he could find the information to apply himself? I don't think yabu at all. If he can't/won't find info then he's unite lazy.

I would also assume that with that accident/insurance rate the company wouldn't hire him, would cost them too much.

I would say that if you give him details then don't recommend him for the job, as when he fucks it up you don't want it coming back and biting your DH on your arse.

My brother has asked my dad to get him jobs before and it's been really embarrassing for my dad when my brother has later been sacked.

Well dh had lots of checks, crb, dvla etc etc so he probably won't get pass selection stage but he and my sister are the type to think 'oh DH works there he'l have it in the bag" and quit the day of the interview!

Yeah he could find it himself but that's my sis and bil all over. Want everyone to do the work for them! I was the one who got her her insurance for her car at christmas because she cxouldnt be arsed!

I wouldn't put forward someone who I thought couldn't do the job, sorry. My DP is looking for an engineer to join his company and my friend's ex is an engineer who was made redundant a year ago. He sort of hinted but I told him there were no vancies. He is a total space cadet, forgets what he is doing half the time, forgets to pay his rent because he is "too busy", etc.. Just wouldn't inflict on someone as its so hard to get rid of incompetent employees once they start!

It also doesn't even sound like you BIL wants the job, otherwise he would have got up there to help your DH and get some experience. Sounds like he's lazy and your sister is trying to stop him being lazy.

just tell your sister to google your husbands company. It is not difficult.

OP - Your BIL sounds like a lazy arse.

He works at burberry at the moment. He had a bloody good job a year ago at tesco distribution. He was on just under £9 an hour and gone to £6+ because he wanted to be closer home plus my sister wasn't happy with working pattern - they were seperated last year got back together in march for nephews sake.

Bil is a waste of space. The house could need cleaning and he will be outside gardening in the pissing down rain!

Also sis and bil are the type of people who do 50/50 parenting (as they put it) so when DN poos its

He is and he's not. He'd rather spend time gardening (away from people) rather than do housework, diy like the day he said he wanted to help DH!

So really gardening is his hobby and something he loves and he doesn't want to do anything else. It's as bad as if he spent all his time at golf or something.

Yes he loves gardening. Don't know why he doesn't stay at his own job and do gardening at weekends for people. Think he only wants job cos he'll get a company van!

The gardening as a job thing is a really good idea! Some people don't think about what jobs best suit them though, they just think what they will get out of it in the short term.

I have a friend who only ever applies for jobs that have the shortest hours, least amount of training and most amount of money. She then hates them, bunks off and gets fired. She does this over and over. She's great with animals though so I suggested a job doing something like that but she didn't want to because of the training involved and possibly low initial wage, even though she'd have loved it and would have probably stayed for life instead of being sacked all the time and unemployed.
