I've got a pal who rings me up and says "Can I pop round today" with one or all three of her sons. It kind of niggles that she doesn't invite me round to her place because I personally would not suggest going over to someone's house unless I was invited. I would invite them to my home or suggest meeting out somewhere. Am I being ridiculous?

yes. Its normal for friends to do this in my experience, how else do you see people? Its ok to say NO to the question though. Sounds to me like she's not actually your friend.

Why not say you are busy or you are just on your way out if you don't want her round.

If i'm not busy and had no plans a friend asking to come round wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I don't think it's inapporpriate but that's just me.

With 3 children she probably wants to get out for a bit of adult chat hence why she never invites you to hers.

I do this, because my house is usually too messy to invite people to, plus I drive so its easier for me to go to them.

You could maybe spend some time tidying then, rather than popping round to your friends and then you could reciprocate once in a while?

Some of my friends do this, some don't. It's not a problem. I ask some friends if I can pop round, because it seems politer than asking them to make their way to my house.

I think you're being a bit ridiculous. Apointments aren't necessary to keep a friendship running smoothly.

Several friends of mine do this, and I don't mind. I haven't got a car, but have got a garden so it is often easier for people to come to us.

um wow, I don't have a problem with this. I don't do it to others though. one acquaintance of mine sometimes just pops over unannounced. that's fine by me, the only thiing that irritates is when she then tells me my house is messy!

It depends on the nature of your relationship and how good friends you are.

I've a friend who does this a lot and it doesn't bother me, and I do the same with her. But we are close and I don't feel I have to tidy or anything.

I don't like it when people do this. I can handle visitors without kids but not with children in tow. I would never invite myself to someones house.

Thaigreen, that's how I feel - I just wouldn't invite myself to someones house. My friend is a good pal but if I want to see her, I ask if she's free to pop over for a coffee and kids can play in garden or suggest a trip out. I just wouldn't feel right asking to go to her house with my kids in tow.
