To think I would hate to live forever?

Do you wish you could be immortal? I don't. I think it's a blessed relief that one day you get to die. Not that I'm suicidal or anything (been there, felt that) but I think the fact that life is finite makes it much more doable. Oh god is that horribly sad? Am I the only one?

If someone gave you the option to live forever, would you?

I'd like some sort of compromise. 80-90ish years if you're lucky doesn't seem long enough, but I should imagine immortality would be a bit overwhelming. I'd quite like about a 500-1000 year lifespan, with the ability to regenerate every 50 years or so, so you always have a young-ish body. And for everybody to have this option - it would be heartbreaking seeing your partner, children, grandchildren etc dying off, or having to get a new set every few decades.

As a cancer patient I can tell you yes. I would love to live forever.

Maybe I could deal with a longer lifespan. The thought of never dying is pretty exhausting! Although I would like it if others didn't die, which I know is weird

Oh no lubberlich, :( What sort of cancer do you have? I suppose if I was actually faced with my mortality I might change my mind. Is your cancer terminal?

I don't want to live for ever. I would like to extend the healthy (and not working !) era for a bit though.

True erm shitmagnet. I think our mentality would have to change a lot to cope. As it is older people find it hard to adjust to the world changing, can you imagine someone from 500 years ago trying to learn to use the internet

I agree - the reality of immortality is actually horrendous. But I would like to choose how long I live and I'd like it to be more than 3 score and 10.

I would quite like to be a young person for ever. Spending eternity as a decrepit hulk doesn't sound good.

omg noooo i definitely do not want to live forever (unless you could stay at about 25 years of age) I do not want to get old, i dont even want to live anywhere near 90!!

As long as I remained healthy. Yes. I want to see what happens at the end. Although I may be a bit odd in that is how I view life on earth. The way it is is like being in a story but never getting to the last page.

Yes I would, definitely, I panic about death all the time, I would definitely definitely take immortality.

YANBU because it's everyone's decision but I'd like to live forever. There's so much you can do in life and 70 odd years doesn't allow you even very much of it!

I don't think you'd get bored. You could try every career. You could read every book. Listen to every piece of music. 70 years or whatever the average is, isn't enough. Although I'm wasting my days on MN at the mo'!

But hammy - there wouldn't be enough careers, enough pastimes, enough places to visit or live in, enough partners if you lived forever. I mean...forever is not just a very long time. And I guess that eventually you'd run out of space and time as well as they universe is going to crunch or expand and fade to cold dark nothingness. Now that would be boring.

I think it would be seriously depressing to see humanity make the same mistakes over and over and over again. Our short life span makes us believe that our ideas are original and new when in fact we're just repeating all the stupidness of previous generations (with a few more technological advances thrown in).

YANBU - but I would happily imagine living to 200 or so, as long as I didn't have to look old a wrinkly. And as long as everybody I loved could hang around that long too...

wouldnt mind seeing what the world looks like in a thousand years, and the lack of knowledge surrounding death terrify me. live forever perhaps not. but a really long time would be nice 80 years just doesnt seem long enough as the last 30 have flow by and they are only speeding up.

I don't want to live longer than the average for my time.

It would just be depressing to have all your friends and family die around you. Especially if you stilll got physically older and weaker.

However if all my friends got to live forever too...

Agree LaWeasal. In fact watching my gran who lived till 99 and had to deal with every single one of her friends and peers dying before her, made me question whether it is such a good idea to live to an old age.

I would hate it. Natural ageing is fine and once my qualitity of life goes I have had enough. I know a very elderly man (over 100) and he says 'old age isn't for sissies'-he has had enough-(he had enough at about 95yrs)
I wouldn't want to be young for ever either.
