to think I need a sabbatical from Mumsnet?

I only found this website a couple of weeks ago, but since then I am shocked at the amount of hours I have wasted spent on here, fascinated by other people's lives. From staring with open-mouthed awe at the education section (as a teacher in a deprived area, I have NEVER met mums like you: 'How do I get my 11 year old child into Cambridge?'), to giggling at smut (licking out. Pah ha ha ha!) and general nosiness, I have easily spent the equivalent of a day here.

Yesterday, my MIL came over to babysit and give me time to study, but I bunked off and went to costa so I could read some more threads, furtively, like an addict.

Through my general reading, I've noticed that the same names post throughout the day and night, thus suggesting that they are on here permanantly. If I'm going to get anything done in my life, I'm clearly going to have to give up mumsnet again. How long do other people think they spend on here? What sections of your life have you given up?

Blimey, I wouldn't give up any sections of my life to post on an internet forum.

I pop on in the day when I'm having a coffee or the kids are out...and at night when my DH is at work.

I'm clearly bingeing, aren't I? Hopefully I'll start getting bored of all my lurking soon.

I could give up watching re-runs of Grand Designs on 4OD (last week's addiction), which would free up quite a lot of time.

I leave MN open if the computer's on, I'll have a nose about if DD2's asleep or if I see someone's blatently wrong and needs putting straight

I think after a while you become more selective. I stay away from Relationships now because you get drawn in, and sometimes it feels a too voyeuristic to lurk and watch someone struggling with major problems. And after a while you've seen the same debates over and over, and realise that the atheists/religious posters will never agree and the debate will just go round and round in circles..... Ditto the FF/BF, private v state school, etc etc.

Although for some reason I can never resist a good Bridezilla thread.

Delighted that some of Mumsnet royalty have deigned to reply to my thread.

I would just like to point out that I rush around doing things in between posting.

I'm also inexplicably drawn to commenting on complete strangers' baby names even though I'm well past the baby naming stage.

Mumsnet can be very addictive.

For me personally sometimes I can go days without posting (depending on whats going on in RL) and sometimes I get hooked into it for a few hours.

I also can get very upset and worried about some of the posters (mainly dv and/or alcohol situations) as they can be a little too close for comfort at times.

On the other hand I think this is a fantastic place to be able to ask for advice, hold handing or whatever you need at the particular time.

I was looking at some soft furnishings last night and I thought I must give Le Queen a call and ask her what she thinks. Then I remembered I dont actually know Le Queen! For a moment I thought she was a RL friend of mine

Actually maybe it is time for me to put down the laptop and step away from the computer!

I do sometimes read threads on the bus on the way to work though

I waste waaay too much time on here but I do see alot of people on here as my friends and I have met quite a few

Actually, I am barely here in person. I have a trained chimp to stand in for me most days, so that I am able to discharge my duties as mother to DS and get out and pay the bills.

I also do spend way too much time on here... at the expense of sleep mostly! I am away for the weekend though... will I survive?

Argh, it'll all kick off on here over the weekend won't it now I'm not going to be here?!

Stupid pregnancy nausea means I've been on here alot this last week, can't watch tv without feeling a bit 'seasick', so it's the only thing I can do (other than reading) atm as I'm 'resting'

ATM, I spend something disgusting like 6 hours on the internet, but at least it means I can 'speak' to friends who've moved away. All change when I'm feeling better!

Right, in the few minutes I've spent off here today, I see that the only section of this site I haven't been on (the wedding section), is clearly the place to be.

Off to look at some nice Bridezilla posts.
