We go to Disneyland on 31st May and just realised that 2 of my children's passports have expired.
I now have an appointment at Newport - 2 hour drive and a cost of £110.00 EACH on Tuesday.
I have to sit and wait for 4 hours - so what is there to do in Newport for 4 hours?

Not much! But if you have 4 hours you can go to Caerleon or Cardiff

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 18/05/2011 19:19

hahahahahaha!! Nothing, I live there Grin

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 18/05/2011 19:19

Seriously though, why do you have 4 hours? I had to do DSs at short notice and I went in for my "appointment", gave them the forms and left about 10 mins later?

cantfindamnnickname · 18/05/2011 19:21

I have to give them the forms and then go back 4 hours later to collect them

I think they tell you 4 hours just to be on the safe side.

Are you taking dc with you?

If you are I'd take them into cardiff to the castle or techniquest.

Not much doing in newport.

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 18/05/2011 19:27

I think mumatron is right :)
If they do tell you to go back in an hour rather than four, go left and up the street and starbucks is about 30seconds walk away. However, not much else!

cantfindamnnickname · 18/05/2011 19:28

No dont have to take the dc with me. Im so bloody glad i looked today and not the morning we travel - so bloody cross with myself

I sent DS2s and DDs passports off for renewal one Wednesday and had them back by the next.

however, I didn't need them

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 18/05/2011 19:32

nope, no parking there but there is parking close. if you park at cambrian car park or the NCP though, theyre easy to find cause theyre opposite the train station and only about 2 mins walk to the passport office :)
take a book and do a little pub crawl? Grin most of the pubs are still open

Punkatheart · 18/05/2011 19:35

I was about to say something rude about Newport but then allsquare said she lives there. I was born there - even as a baby I was bored! You could check out Tintern, which isn't that far away. I think there is a museum in Newport? Allsquare?

thehairybabysmum · 18/05/2011 19:35

I had a new passport back within one week usingthe check and send service at the PO....can you do that instead?

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 18/05/2011 19:46

Punk , tis a lovely place..... Grin

There is indeed a museum. And it has some lovely pots. And nothing else.

Punkatheart · 18/05/2011 19:52

My mother took me to a get a drink in Newport and I asked for some tea.

'What kind of tea do you do?' I said.

Girl chewing gum, with valley accent.

'We got teabags. Tha's all.'

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 18/05/2011 19:54

there are other kinds of tea ??? Shock

Punkatheart · 18/05/2011 19:59

There's lush.

Lonnie · 18/05/2011 20:03

OMG this board is hysterical today

mumatron · 18/05/2011 20:18

If you've no dc with you lucky thing then I'd just go for a wander round the shops, take a good book and get a coffee.

Or take a drive down to cardiff yourself.

I had to get 3 passports last minute once, I'm sure I was in and out within about half hour.

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 18/05/2011 20:19

good luck looking round the shops, they've all gone!

mumatron · 18/05/2011 20:36

Have they really? I haven't been to newport for ages.

Get yourself into cardiff then.

We've got loads!

Punkatheart · 18/05/2011 20:42

Monmouth is nice - but it's a bit twee...
