To wonder why OH hates vegetables so much....

So OH diet consists of, meat, bread, crisps, chocolate, energy drinks and fags! (with an odd banana and apple) He strongly declared earlier he HATES vegetables and was annoyed our food shop was mainly acommadating for me and our son.
DS and i are both vegetarians, our foods consist of alot of dairy, eggs, wide range of vegetables, fruits, pulses, pastas and some vege substitutes.
I don't fancy using our food budget on the crap he eats! Its expensive and not nutritious!
AIBU for not understanding why he hates them (he is reluctant to try any as he "has when he was younger" though im sure he hasn't tried them all....)
He then starts saying that he'll get vitamin supplements (not ideal IMHO its a supplement not a replacement!)

Also a wwyd i suppose...

I guess he's a grown up and entitled to fill his body full of crap if he wishes.

Lonnie · 17/05/2011 19:46

YANBU and I would ask him to go see someone to speak about his food issues. (ALL vegetables REALLY???)

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 17/05/2011 19:48

I don't know, OP, but mine considers them to be a 'garnish'...

A vegetarian who doesn't like vegetables though is surely going to struggle a bit... Confused

cricketballs · 17/05/2011 19:48

maybe he doesn't want to use your food budget on the 'crap you eat' YAIBU for thinking your dh's is not entitled to his own opinion on what he eats

AgentZigzag · 17/05/2011 19:48

Agree wholeheartedly with pjmama, he's your DP not your DS.

AgentZigzag · 17/05/2011 19:50

I think it's the OPs DS who's a veggie, not her DP lyingwitch.

mrsravelstein · 17/05/2011 19:51

my dh really doesn't enjoy vegetables other than asparagus slathered in parmesan... but he eats them with good grace because he knows I'm trying to give him a balanced healthy diet, and because it's a good example to the 3dc. dh would be disappointed with a meal that contained no meat/fish/poultry though.

Rollmops · 17/05/2011 20:05

The only 'vegetables' my ex husband recognised were olives in his lunch-time martini. Hmm

coastgirl · 17/05/2011 20:13

Is he a supertaster? I have always liked vegetables but when I got pg my tastes changed and suddenly green veg tasted horrible to me - truly inedible. What did taste good was bland, 'junky' stuff. Gave me an insight into what might be going on in some people's mouths!

LadyBeagleEyes · 17/05/2011 20:14

I loathe most vegetables but force myself to eat them because they are 'healthy'.
He's an adult and knows what he likes by now, though it must be awkward if you're veggie.

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 17/05/2011 20:20

I would tell him to grow up. I'd expect, 'I don't like vegetables' from a small boy, not a man. In the end it's his choice. At least your DS seems to not take after him.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 17/05/2011 20:26

AgentZigZag... I managed to miss that. I actually googled to see what a non-vegetable-eating-vegetarian would eat.. Blush

UKSky · 17/05/2011 20:37

It's genetic apparently. Saw a documentary about it a while ago.

AgentZigzag · 17/05/2011 20:38

hehe lying, I'm always missing bits (usually crucial) out because of skim reading the posts/OP, you couldn't get through the threads else Grin

What did they survive on then?

Fresh air I'm guessing.

doley · 17/05/2011 20:43

I think he is being childish .

It is his body ,but you are obviously concerned so it effects both/all of you .

Eating healthy food in front of your son would help your family ,maybe you could come at it from that angle ?
