some people say prison is CUSHY. This episode was all about a nightmare existance in Strangeways for prisoners and staff.

The staff struggle on meagre wages. Why do they do it? Half of the prisoners need to be in a proper hospital ..No easy answers.

The guy named David had serious issues. I have no idea what the answer is but don't think prison is the place for him. He was the guy that deficated everywhere as he didn't want to be released.

He was an unusual case. Hammy and he went straight back to Strangeways.

My wife could not watch the programme ,it was heavy goin, I thought some of the scenes may have been staged for the cameras.

Everybody shows off to a tv camera. I suppose "secret filming" is the real deal Even if its not ethical

ScousyFogarty · 17/05/2011 11:51

Yes possibly, he has severe problems.

raindroprhyme · 17/05/2011 12:02

it just made me so sad.

ScousyFogarty · 17/05/2011 12:05

I went to wandsworth HMP for a job interview years ago; it was interesting but a little frightening. At the gate they asked me "Have you brought a prisoner.?" I certainly had not

They thought I was a prison warder. Not many people make that mistake with me. It seems a rum old job but someone likes doing it. I have never done an authority job. Perhaps I am not the type

They should have referred him to Broadmoor, sorry but he was a disgusting vile excuse of a man who knew how t he system works. He was released for a week yet he was back at strangeways within the week. Why not send him to broadmoor and let them deal with him. He needed something doing as it was going to go round in circles time after time after time. again.

ScousyFogarty · 17/05/2011 15:23

yes Dinosaur...a lot of people would agree with that; But I am not sure how much in control of himself he was.

Fantastic documentary. Quite brilliant considering it is crappy old ITV.
How anyone can work in that environment is beyond me. People joke about "dirty protests" but jesus christ the reality of having to deal with it on a daily basis.

HalfPastWine · 17/05/2011 15:28

Thank God for prisons is all I say! That monster guy who killed his girlfriend....how scary was he. To think that these people walk amongst us until they get caught. As for David, he definitely needs to be in a place where they can work on his mental health issues.

ImADinosaurSoRawrAndStuff · 17/05/2011 17:40

he was very much in control of himself. He couldnt walk when he felt like he couldnt but yet could trash his cell and piss all over? Right Hmm he was doing it for a reaction. He was acting like a spoilt toddler not getting his own way.

ScousyFogarty · 18/05/2011 10:51

I am not convinced that he was in control He was fighting to stay iIN PRISON
when he got his wish for a while; he was still fighting against prison; that is not my idea of control. But thanks for posting.
