What would be reasonable

Say you were looking for an item of furniture with a budget of say £250. Said item became available due to a bereavement in the family of one of your inlaws. Say this item was only 3 months old and was £400 new. What would you pay/expect to pay for it?

Presumably your inlaw is related to your dh?
Get him to ask the executor if the items are to be sold or are they looking to give the house contents to family and if so he'd quite like the furniture items you are after.

I'd look on ebay for similar thing and see what they were selling for and use that as my guide.

If it wasn't an easy agreement and had potential to cause bother, I would walk away at once, because it simply wouldn't be worth bad feeling at a sad time over something as trivial as furniture.

Id offer the £250 i had budgeted, if they want you to have it for less they would offer?
