To write at least an approximation of a will tonight?

Am I being a great big paranoid fuckwitted wuss? Or am I actually being sensible?

I am having a tooth out tomorrow, and as i am a bad patient, prone to screaming hysterics and biting, I am having intravenous sedation. And I've got it into my head that I might just die in the dentists' chair. (Yes, I know it's all perfectly safe and I have a bigger chance of being killed on the way there by a frozen block of piss falling out of an aeroplane toilet).
But AIBU to think I ought to write out a list of things like important phone numbers (for the rental agent and all my creditors and employers and shit like that) and other info for DS' dad?

YOu should always have something like that somewhere anyway, if you want to do tonight then why not?

Good luck for tomorrow am sure you be fine.

YANBU, short of having an actual legal will (obviously the preferred hoice!), anything you think will be important should be written down with at least one A.N. Other knowing it's whereabouts.

Pre getting off our arses and doing it properly having a will, I had a list of such things and a letter to each of my family kept in a safe place with my sister knowing of it. I updated it every year.

Frozen blocks of piss are an outside possibilty :)

All the best for tomorrow

Thanks for good wishes. Now I really have been a paranoid wuss and after writing down instructions for DS dad, written a letter for DS in case of not coming home and am bawling my head off.

Aw, poor you, it's only nerves getting to you - have a good blow and dry those tears.

Although you may be a GBPFW YANBU to draft a Will at this particuar time, and think of the hours of fun you'll have threatening to change it throught the course of your (I suspect) very long life.

You can write a Will on any old piece of paper; remember that your executor/s can be beneficiaries, but in order for the Will to be legal your signature must be witnessed by two other parties who are not beneficiaries.

If you draft a Will tonight you can take it with you tomorrow and ask 2 of the practice/nursing staff to act as witnesses to your signature - I expect it's a common request.

If you find it difficult to sleep after you've divided up your worldly goods, why not plan your funeral? That should cheer you up. There's lots of good music available on the (I don't get) Opera thread, and I suspect there's a few poems on the similar Poetry thread that would suit the occasion.

Imagine how proud you'll be if you pop your clogs any time in the next few weeks and your dear newly bereaved DNBs' praise your foresight. But I doubt you'll be RingIP for long - if I had a relative with that level of prescience I'd hotfoot it round to the local Spiritualist Church asap to make contact and get the winning lottery numbers.

I have no doubt you'll come through your session in the dreaded chair without incident but if, in the so highly unlikely event that the odds are incalculable, you don't please do feel free to drop into mine with those numbers and move a few ornaments around before you go into the light.

With very best wishes for your continued dental and physical good health. You're going to be just fine, and I hope you'll be back here within 24 hours to tell us all about it as I lurve happy endings.

Just wanted to say a big good luck as I hate the dentist too. Had no idea you could get intravenous sedation and might beg ask for this the next time I have to have anything done.

Punkatheart · 11/05/2011 06:07

You will be fine. I expect you to come back here and tell us all about it.

Hugs and good wishes.

Good luck today!

I bawl my eyes out every time I update the letters I mentioned above! It's amazing as I started about 12 years ago and 2 of the letters are for my niece and nephew (at the time of starting I was childless and they are extremely dear to me) sooo the first letters started quite simply as in-

"Remember to do well at school, be an individual, etc etc"

And now, 12 years down the line it's more

"Keep plugging at your career, you'll be grateful later, plan your pension etc"

All that ^^ of course interspersed with soppyness from me!

Well I survived (as I knew I would really). It wasn;t too bad at all, only one tooth had to come out and I was being driven home by my parents less than a couple of hours later. Have now hidden the letters, but will go and get a will form from Smiths and do a proper version for the future.

Glad you survived. Mnet would be a quieter and more boring place without you. Grin

ZimboMum · 11/05/2011 21:47

Glad it is over with now! Well done!
