if it was my son, i wouldn't allow him to go to school in a skirt. I think it maybe because i would fear him getting bullied over it.

Surely. Not surly FFS [surly]

Maybe they should be less draconian, and more like the British Army?

There, you can have a line of personnel all in correct uniform for the event and not have a matching pair. And I believe the Royal Navy and the Australian Army both have options with shorts.

TimeWasting · 13/05/2011 13:24

Like footballers? They seem to have a choice in sleeve length, glove/snood option etc.

nickelbabe · 13/05/2011 13:24

actually, from Mary's article, I think this comment
"?It?s a wonderful feeling. Quite honestly ? I have a meeting in central London after this, if it were socially acceptable I?d wear this.?" from Adrian Chiles (i assume) is quite :(

It's silly in this day and age that it's not socially acceptable for men to wear skirts.

pickyourbrain · 13/05/2011 15:26

Indeed. If this were a large firm I'm sure they would be at risk if they told a man he couldnt wear a skirt... so why should the little boy be told he can't.

Grrr to uniforms for kids anyway... what is the point?! So outdated, not to mention impracticle.

At DSs school boys only wear trousers in Yr5 and Yr6 but are allowed to still wear shorts if they want. None of them do though because trousers are seen as a badge of seniority/maturity.

However, somewhat odly DS1 encouraged the boys chose to wear skorts rather than shorts in a recent house netball match so they had the same kit as the girls. Girls have to wear skorts but no rule boys can't. This from a boy who won't be seen dead wearing pink because its 'girly'.

I do admire the lad in this case and it looks like the school will review its policy.
