Paypal question

sorry i know this is wrong board but i dont know where to ask it.

I bought and paid for an item on ebay on the 5th may by paypal. As i still have not received the item i checked my ebay summary and have noticed that the item is now marked as dispatched but the payment is marked as having been paid just today. Usually if i pay by paypal the seller gets his money straight away so why has it now taken 5 days to get from mine to his?

anyone know? thanks

Did you have credit in your Paypal account to cover the whole cost or has your card that's registered on Paypal expired? If not it could have been sent as an e-cheque, although that usually takes 10 days to clear. Sorry, not much help!

Oh, and there's an ebay board here and you may get more knowledgable responses there.

Do you mean the seller has marked that payment has been marked as today?

If so then they've just clicked the box today, it doesn't necessarily mean the payment's gone through today.

And some sellers mark as dispatched when they've got the items together to post, it doesn't always mean they've put it in the post.

I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Did you have the money in paypal?

I was thinking the e-cheque as well dinosaurs, I used to have buyers who didn't know they'd paid using an e-cheque and were wondering where there items were.

If it is marked as despatched, it's not that the seller has only just got the payment it is because they have only just posted it. If you hover your cursor over the £ sign next to that it will tell you when the seller received the payment.

sorry i didnt explain properly, my paypal is linked to my bank account and debit card so there is always funds available. I have been checking my summary to see when seller has dispatched but so far its the payment was marked as paid because it was done through paypal but only today was the dispatched box marked, but when i hover over the payment it says payment was today 10 may, even when i click contact seller (re where is my item? ) it says payment was received by seller today?

i am confused Confused

The seller received your payment on 10 May, 2011. Your delivery estimate is 09 May, 2011 - 10 May, 2011

I'm only guessing, but just because your paypal account is linked to your bank account (which it has to be to open a paypal account) that doesn't mean you have money in your paypal.

You have to transfer the cash over to paypal, and this might take time.

The paypal payment is only instant if you have the balance to cover paying for the item.

Does that make any sense? Grin

The seller may have just not accepted your payment straight away if they sell a lot of stuff and are busy, ive bought loads of stuff off Ebay with my bank card linked to my paypal account, ive never actually got any money in my paypal account so it comes straight from my bank account, usually its done right away but i have seen this happening, if the seller has marked as dispatched they they will be happy at their side, give it 7-10 days to recieve the item from date bought and contact the seller if its not arrived by then.

agent i always pay this way and seller does get their money instantly and never usually has to wait. sometimes i get the item before its even left my bank account! im hoping they havent changed their system in some way that this is going to happen in the future :(

bsv, do they have to accept your payment? i thought it was just instantly in your account? i sell a few things and ive never had to accept payment or maybe its like that for business users?

I just sent a bunch of stuff off, using the automatic label function that prints the postage, too. I noticed that eBay had marked my items dispatched, even though I hadn't posted them yet.

Fair enough, the automatic postage expires in 24hrs so you've got to post it pdq, but it does mean my buyers thought I'd sent the items a day earlier.

It's a while since I've sold on ebay, it's all a bit expensive/skewed in favour of the buyer these days.

I did it for 5 years and never got sick of it, shame really.

Yes the seller has to accept the payment, if it shows as paid at your end then all is good but doesnt mean that its been accepted yet, its usually done right away but i have had a couple of times that the same thing has happened to me, i wouldnt go by the estimated delivery date as all sellers dont post as fast as they claim, i leave it 7 days for 1st class and 10 days for all other options and then contact the seller.
