To wish she would stay at home?

I am off to a mutual friends party later. Friend A has tonsillitis, and is on antibiotics. Rather than stay home, she is coming out, and has said she will just go to bed early is necessary (we are staying over)

AIBU to wish she would keep her germ ridden self at home? I have just got over one cold, and really don't want anything else.

I am considering a face mask, like they use in Japan.

I don't think tonsillitis is contagious. However, I am not a doctor!

squeakytoy · 07/05/2011 11:11

It is not usually contagious after 48hours anyway.

Just drink plenty to ensure you are well sterilised by alcohol Grin

Relax, unless you lick her tonsils she is not contagious.

DooinMeCleanin · 07/05/2011 11:11

Unless you are planning on french kissing friend A you should be fine.

I know, I know, I'm over reacting. Maybe I should get her a bell, so I can hear her coming.

No French kissing planned. Ugh, kissing manly tonsils, yuck!

tonsillitis just means an inflammation of the tonsils. It can be caused by a hundred different things, including viruses and bacteria. If she is on antibiotics, it must be either suspected or confirmed to be bacterial. This may or may not be infectious, and you have no idea how much. Most likely candidate is strep A, which is pretty infectious and has an incubation period of 2-4 days.

Sit well away from her and don't share any glasses, cutlery etc. No kissing or hugging.
