roots on other women. do you look and think ooh you skank sort that out whack some hair dye on there, at what point do roots become an 'eyesore'. i ask as i really want to grow out my current hair colour (kind of already am!) and NOT dye back to a close to my real hair colour shade. so shoot. i can take it. I dont really take any notice of other womens roots but maybe that's just me! Depends how dark your natural colour is I guess. I'm a (dyed) dark blonde most of the time but couldn't afford to get my hair done last year so went a whole year without highlights. My natural colour is almost black and it was very noticeable but I didn't want to dye the whole lot dark as it's then very hard to get rid of. (My natural colour makes me look like Morticia!)

Salmotrutta · 07/05/2011 02:10

YABU - to call anyone a skank.

I have never dyed my hair - but I defend the right of others to do so and I would never judge anyone for "roots". I don't care.

VajazzHands · 07/05/2011 02:12

YABU to use AIBU for a non AIBU question.

But... When I did this I dyed my hair back to my natural hair color and cut a few inches off so it wouldn't take too long. And then I just let it grow out naturally

FurKnickersAndNoCoat · 07/05/2011 02:13

hair is bleached almost white blonde and....wait for it....real hair is very dark red, well through the years it has gone more dark brown with red bits (looks black against the bleached white/blonde tho'). looks pretty poor IMO but i just dont want to dye it anymore particularly as taking it back to near natural colour with dye will result in bleach coming through underneath dark dye after a couple of weeks. as the last lot of bleach was a poor home dye job there is lots of dark underneath/sides etc. so it doesn't look completely awful. more like a head full of bleach highlights over natural hair that is growing out. Blush

i was calling MYSELF a skank AND i posted earlier about using AIBU for things that were not AIBU and was told to crack on as others often do!

Sorry! The lack of punctuation made it hard to read. No offence.

AgentZigzag · 07/05/2011 02:21

'AND i posted earlier about using AIBU for things that were not AIBU and was told to crack on as others often do!'

Now you don't want to go listening to anyone giving you advice about what to post OP Grin

LostInSockLand · 07/05/2011 02:24

Could you get the hairdresser to do a strand test maybe? Just to see how it would look if you got the blonde bits dyed natural colour whilst growing it all out? Depends on how long your hair is too...mine was all down my back so no chance of growing it out quickly...not that i'd want to, my natural colour is horrible!

FurKnickersAndNoCoat · 07/05/2011 02:24

too true agentzig STOP will hang badly dyed head of hair in shame STOP will focus on the important things in life STOP namely, yes you guessed it, giant african land snails STOP

OP posts:
AgentZigzag · 07/05/2011 02:29

I'd judge you.

And I wouldn't try to hide the shitting cats bum mouth I'd pull and all.

But I would try and find a little bag for it in this situation.

LostInSockLand · 07/05/2011 02:30

aha...so I spend my precious time giving you advice on hair dye ishooos and you dont even let me in on the giant african land snail in-joke...there's thanks for a person Wink

FurKnickersAndNoCoat · 07/05/2011 02:34

mine is pretty short, just below ears. may cut losses and do a sinead o'connor with a bic.

a big bag for my head might be helpful agent.

no land snail in joke lost - see the cat pooping and needing plastic bags thread - dunno how to do that link to another thread thing.

LostInSockLand · 07/05/2011 02:41

Oh i've seen it, seem to be many pet threads tonight...was going to suggest I also shoot the neighbours kids who rip my plants up but thought better of it ...people dont seem to like that Confused Grin.

BitOfFun · 07/05/2011 02:43

Why can you not dye the rest of your hair to match?

FurKnickersAndNoCoat · 07/05/2011 02:43

i know what is UP with people! plant some oversized venus fly traps (im thinking the plant from rocky horror) and then have the parents complain when they can only see their kids legs sticking out of your big plants Grin

OP posts:
LostInSockLand · 07/05/2011 02:47

pftthhhhh, those plants would have no chance at all against my neighbour's kids! Grin

FurKnickersAndNoCoat · 07/05/2011 02:52

i'd go with the shooting then Grin

When the roots are all grown out that's when I buy wacky colours. They need reapplying (as normally semi, but even permanent's fade quickly on me) but I enjoy it.

PenguinArmy · 07/05/2011 02:55

Lilac has been my best to date

LostInSockLand · 07/05/2011 02:56

On the porch in my rocking chair.

LostInSockLand · 07/05/2011 02:57

why do I always cross post!

FurKnickersAndNoCoat · 07/05/2011 02:58

am hearing that hill billy music lost....the one with the banjo...!

penguin - i wouldn't be brave enough! plus how would the cuffs match the collar if i went fuschia pink [shocked]

OP posts:
LostInSockLand · 07/05/2011 03:03

(gets banjo out and strums away happily) ignoring thoughts of fuschia pink...

anonymosity · 07/05/2011 03:36

I did this. Use a temporary colour on the roots that matches the rest - you have to do it every week or so, but it blends it (don't leave it in too long or it will discolour permanently). Once there is enough root growth you can cut it or whathaveyou.

That or buy some nice hats.
