To go to work when I am ill?

I am working nights tonight. I have been sick for the last two days and, while I am over the worst of it, I am not 48 hrs clear.

I can't take time off, work are on minimum and if I go sick then I will be penalised by being removed from my shift pattern which buggers my childcare.

I don't work with food or people who are unwell (as in a medical career) and I will do my very best to avoid passing it about but I feel that I have to go to work.

AIBU?

In those circumstance - no, I don't think you are being unreasonable.

As long as you are capable of doing your work.

How many hours are you clear? Are you past the 24 hour mark? If so, then yes you're probably fine. Any less than 24 and all you'll do is make your work even more short-staffed by spreading your germs about.

Only you can judge it tbh. I hate it when you have no options but to go in "Or Else!" That sucks ass. You might be unwittingly setting a precedent and make others feel that they must go in when not fully recovered. Hope you feel better soon.

I'm fit to work, I am driving a desk tonight. Should be 24hrs clear by 7pm when I start my night shift.

Thanks JKPP. An innovative new sickness absence policy has been enforced at work - I don't think I have ever been as I'll since it's introduction. Absence has plummeted but only because people are obliged to work even when ill.

Fingers crossed I won't toss my cookies again before tonight.
