Given that you have an 'off' button YABU.

I started watching when I read your post and, while I'm not overly impressed with the format or the presenters. I cannot see that the programme is doing any harm - and it may do some good if it gives hope to adoptees and their birth families.

Even in these 'enlightened' times there are birth mothers who feel traumatised and stigmatised by having given their children up for adoption, and anything that goes some way to alleviating their worry and guilt is ok by me.

You may consider this programme to be crap sentimental tv in the same way that I consider X-Factor, Strictly, et al to be mindless drivel but, unlike yourself, I opt to watch what I like rather than bitching about what I loathe.

YABU IMHO

I thought it was lovely. It was real peoples lives and something nice happening to them after years of heart ache and uncertainty. I'm a sap TBH but I can't see how there could be anything wrong with that.

FreudianSlipper · 05/05/2011 22:41

this programme is not about alleviating the guilt birth mothers may have its about using vulnerable people who are desperate to track down a loved one and in turn tugging at viewers heart strings, seeing and sharing real emotion in order to get high ratings.

i hope no one that has been involved in filming this programme regrets what will be one of the most significant points in their lives has been made into entertainment but i imagine some will.

i shall bitch away :)

And I will defend your right to do soFreudianSlipper Wink even lthough I can't agree that this particular programme exploits vulnerable people.

I doubt very much that I will watch future episodes but, as stated, anything that raises awareness of the impact that adoption has on all involved gets my vote.
