He is sat on the sofa chewing gum and every so often he pulls it out in a string with his fingers and puts it back in. I was brought up in a household where chewing gum was banned and was always told by my mother that it was a horrible, dirty and uneducated habit. I have mellowed slightly in that I accept some people like the stuff (makes me gag) but I cannot bear him chewing away in front of me (and DD) and the pulling out a string and looking at it thing is revolting (isn't it or aibu?) When I ask him to stop he just laughs and does it more and tells me to get over it

its a gross habit, not chewing it but winding it round his finger, how old is he 6?

I agree. Is he a child??

I blow little bubbles (years of chewing bubble gum as a teen!) but don't do the finger windy thing.
