the AV voting thing? the more i read about it the more confused i get.

so the av is to stop tatical(sp) voting?

No it isn't entirely to stop tactical voting - more to ensure that the end result is in more direct proportion to the intentions of the voter - but one of the by-products of AV would be a "cleaner" sort of campaign and a quite different approach to the whole issue of tactical voting.
