Hi all,

I am looking to do a distance learning access to midwifery course that i can then use to get onto a midwifery degree at a local university in a couple of years time. There are lots of distance learning colleges out there but how do i know if they are reputable?

can anyone reccomend me one at all? my local college has stopped doing p/t evening access to midwifery and there is no way at all i can do a full time day course.

any ideas?

Thanks

What about speaking to the university that you want to study Midwifery at and ask them where they recommend?

they dont sadly. they just said as long it was an accredited course it would be fine. i said you used to do them and she said yes but not now, so i asked where i could and she said she didnt know and it was up to me to find somewhere. useful!

I understand their reluctance to appear to be supporting a particular course. A different tactic is to ask them for a list of courses that have been offered by applicants who have been successful in recent years. This is a statement of information rather than an endorsement so they nay be more willing to do this.

Can you find out who accredits the courses? They should tell you that at least, and then you could probably find the accreditor's website.

You could phone the open university - they don't offer courses that are specifically called 'access courses' AFAIK but they are for a similar idea, there are 'openings' courses which are for people who are not quite ready to start degree level. The call centre people are usually really helpful and should know how to help you. 0845 300 60 90
