Where do these massive salaries exist?

I've been reading the "Are you Rich?" thread on here and some people seem to have very high salaries indeed. Apprentice candidates each year on the programme are already on salaries of 100k plus before being on the show. Plenty of people seem well off and have houses and cars that mean they are obviously not earning the minimum wage.

I do not know anyone locally (east anglia) that earns more than about £20,000 per year. There are no jobs around here that pay anymore than that. And the ones that I know earning 20k or so are teachers and nurses. Nothing is ever advertised in my area with a higher salary than that.

Where are all these 100k+ jobs?

I've no doubt a social worker works very hard and of course super stressful- but you will have structure- policies, procedures, sign offs of decisons and so on. You won't turn up, get told to go to a families and house "decide whet to do with them, its up to you"

Its teh lack of support that stressful I knwo social workers don't get much support but they at least have structure, defined tasks etc.

Alice, surely you have solicitors, accountants and doctors in East Anglia ?

those jobs would be advertised at well in excess of £20,000.

Professional jobs are generally advertised in professional journals, not ads in the local paper.

You need to be re-training in a profession of some sort if you want to earn a higher salary.

Sales jobs often pay higher salaries but you need to generate sales and often part of the salary package is based on targets.

I would agree though that for the unskilled there are very few jobs paying good money, particularly in the provincial/rural areas.

My boss told me that last year, 75% of our new recruits came from referrals from existing employees.

The remainder came from headhunters.

I don't think I've ever seen a job ad from my company (a bank) in the paper.
