i went to the local paper after finding out that my childrens head teacher is using school funds to fund her 60th birthday party to the tune of 1,500. mildly nervous about it now wondering if i did the right thing though i feel its a total travesty as they are merging classes and claiming lack of funding for one to one children with special needs. wondering if it was an extreme move on my part.aibu?

Any issues with headteacher should always be Chair of Governors as 1st port of call then LEA if no joy from them / or if they are directly implicated. The fact that it hasn't even happened yet puts the paper on dodgy grounds for a story AND doesn't effectively address the concerns of the staff, parents and pupils. This could be a complete misunderstanding or it could be one of many misdemeanours - you need to follow official routes to establish facts.

quick update on this, it was all true. horribly so. she was going to have a limo pick her up from her home drop her to the school were the was going to be a party with a band etc for her and invited friends paid for buy the school funds. now that it has come out it has been cancelled and she is out for blood apparently assuming that someone at the school leaked the information to the parents, governs etc, which happily isnt the case.
i am still astounded by the whole thing and kind of hoped up until i found out it was true that my info was wrong. cant believe this kind of thing can go on in our schools!

I know a head teacher who bought a new expensive leather sofa with school funds and swapped it for the one they had at home. (they did get caught out)

TheLadyEvenstar · 11/05/2011 10:38

How did you find out it was true?

cannydoit · 11/05/2011 10:42

well having gone to the paper already i didnt realise he was not waiting for me to get back in contact and he has been phoning the school causing panic. i contacted the governs who basically told me to mind my own business. except one who confirmed what was known. now its generally a school scandal.

Oh that governor broke a confidentiality rule surely?

cannydoit · 11/05/2011 10:50

they may well have done but perhaps they felt that abuse of power was a good enough reason to do so.
