to advise all Amazon/ebayers never to use Yodel?

Had a card through the door claiming they tried to deliver. No, they didn't, I was at home the whole time. No tracking number. No parcel number. An 0844 number where nobody answers. Their depot is a 40 minute drive. Phone calls to 0844 press offices and "customer services" where I'm told I have to contact the sender to find the tracking number to be able to collect my parcel. Which sender, out of two dozen sending me stuff right now? Or was it a birthday present for any of the three birthdays in our house, so I don't know the sender anyway?

No attempt to deal with it. Insistence on speaking to a manager results in an expensive 10 minute wait on hold and no one coming back to me.

They have been paid for this service. I've paid them. They can fucking fuck off if they think this is a service. Any provider that uses Yodel will not get my custom in future.

Yup, complete sympathy here. They changed name from HDNetwork to try and escape their reputation, but its made no difference. I know of a parcel that was left by them in a mnetter's dustbin, which was emptied before they got home to see the calling card.

Are you in a lot then? I always seem to get parcels when i'm out, even if its a non-working day and i'm only on the school run Hmm

Goosetrees · 04/05/2011 13:27

I am this week simply because I can be Grin

hurrah, sorting out house after a month of chaos

Reality you are lucky but reading the reviews you are unusual.

They have been bloody crap this morning, bloody crap, and what's more the response has been crap, which leads me to the unsurprising conclusion that it's common practice.

I will never, never order again from someone who uses yodel (sorry reality!) By contrast Royal Mail are completely brilliant.

Yanbu. They never leave cards here. A couple of times my neighbour brought parcels round, once I had an email froth company I brought from confirming that it had been returned to sender as unwanted (because they had taken it back to the depot and I didn't collect/rearrange delivery...how could I when I didn't know they'd been) and the most recent time I contacted the place I'd bought from and they confirmed it had been delivered 5 doors down 10 days ago.

Bear in mind I don't work, so many of the times they alleged to have tried to deliver I have actually been in. Hmm

jimswifein1964 · 04/05/2011 13:35

goosetrees, I make a point now of confirming that they wont be the delivery company, before i order anything online.

frgr · 04/05/2011 13:37

Oh god is this the same bunch that used to be called the Home Delivery Network?

Worst delivery company I have ever dealt with on a personal or professional level, if it is.

SisterCarrie · 04/05/2011 13:37

I went in to a well known stationer's the other day to ask about their new partnership with what looks to be DHL from the signage, but turns out locally to be Yodel doing the picking up and tracking. The shop assistant out and out said that the service was hugely unreliable since Yodel took it over and I would be better off going to the Post Office as Yodel's online tracking didn't work properly and she personally had experienced complaints even in the first month of Yodel operating the service. I was v astonished that they are allowed to tarnish a global brand like DHL in this way.

HalfPastWine · 04/05/2011 13:42

I've had a similar experience with this company though not as bad as others have. Enough to know I'll be very wary in future!

stream · 04/05/2011 13:44

The trick with deliveries is never to order anything bigger than your letterbox. Hmm

frgr · 04/05/2011 13:46

yes, stream, otherwise joke delivery companies like Yodel aka the Home Delivery Network (I've googled, they are the same bunch of amateaurs) leave it in the bin on the day it's getting picked up. but don't bother putting cards through the door or even knocking when someone is working from home that day.

grr, i'm angry again now, thinking back to the "alice in wonderland" topsy turvey conversation i had with their customer services team after that little incident. not helped by the fact that the woman sounded like she was chewing gum and couldn't give a rat's ass about customers, if i remember rightly

Malvapoeding · 04/05/2011 13:47

I am sitting in waiting for DD2's new carseat to be delivered - it was out for delivery last Wednesday! The place I ordered from only had 1 seat when I went to see them so ordered me a second to be delivered the next day, a week later it is still not here, they can't tell the shop where it is, they don't answer the phone. I could have walked to the carseat supplier 25miles away and carried the bloody thing home by now!!

Goose - even their customer service departments can't get the depot to answer!

Really? I've had quite a few parcels delivered by the Home Delivery Network and never had a problem! Same with my next door neighbours, they always seem to be having parcels delivered by them, they're having one now actually as I type! It must depend on where abouts you live perhaps!?!

NoseyNooNoo · 04/05/2011 14:13

Thank you for this thread. We have had such problems with HDNL that I won't order from companies that use them. I shall add Yodel to the list too! HDNL have a knack of not delivering and then the tracking system saying that it has been delivered and signed for and when I ask for proof of the signature the items turn up at about 10pm, presumably when the thief realises they've been rumbled.

I would add Furniture Logistics to the list too but if I explain I will have steam coming out of my ears.

My Home Delivery Network man is good, he always bangs on the door (my house is a crap layout, living rooms upstairs at the back of the house Hmm)so i can hear leaves my package in my garden or with a neighbour leaving a card, he seems to deliver from every company going thoughHmm
Must depend on the area you live in.

Insomnia11 · 04/05/2011 14:36

Never had a problem with HDNL. Now CityLink on the other hand...

slowshow · 04/05/2011 14:37

I fecking hate HDL / Yodel / whatever they want to call themselves this week. In fact I have a calling card at home from them and haven't been arsed to arrange a redelivery yet. It is a single babygro and I'm damned if I'm wasting a day's annual leave waiting at home for it.

I once tried arranging a redelivery online with instructions to throw the parcel over the side gate, sellotaped the "sorry we missed you" card with PLEASE THROW OVER SIDE GATE and came home to yet another "sorry we missed you" card. I was furious! Having a side gate is one of the advantages of living in an end terrace house, and plenty of other delivery drivers have no qualms about chucking (non fragile) parcels over there.
