what a widget is?

Is it something they put in cans of beer?
To my mind it should be any small thing which doesn't really have a purpose - wind up false teeth on legs, newton's cradles, etc etc.

A widget is indeed in a can of beer, and does have a purpose - it regulates the flows so a good head develops.

I think it's the thing in beers like Guinness and Boddingtons to give it the appearance of 'proper pulled pint' sort of stuff. However, I think your ideas are better. So I guess YANBU!
