People with dogs should have a bit more consideration

Ok heres the story sat in a pub beer garden yesterday with lots of little toddlers running around. Some of them had no shoes on! In walked this couple with a dog who proceeded to wee on the grass area where these children were walking to and from the play park! I have nothing against dogs but I wondered what other people thought of this?

Pub beer garden - children should most definitely have shoes ON!

Dogs pee.

Glass smashes.

Beer drinkers sometimes spew.

wouldnt have a problem with it if it was just piddle tbh. be more worried about shoeless toddlers standing on broken glass from knocked over pints.

SOME dog owners should have more consideration. SOME parents should have more common sense.

Not much you can do about it tbh. If my dog needs to pee, she will go at the first sight of grass.

It is almost impossible to stop a dog peeing and can't be cleared up if on grass. I have tried dragging my dog away when it started peeing and it just carried on peeing as it was being dragged! So either the rule has to be no dogs or you have to put up with dogs peeing.

If anyone has any ideas on how to train an older dog to not pee on grass when I don't want it to, please tell me!

i agree with everyone else- the kids should have had shoes on.

Bare feet are for your own house and garden where you can control how safe the environment is.

It's ridiculous to give out about dogs peeing in a public place, what do you expect?

YABU. Why on Earth would people allow their toddler to roam in a beer garden with no shoes? Far more irresponsible than a dog widdling.

Not a big fan of excrement or urine, canine or otherwise, but unsure exactly how a dog owner can stop a dog mid-flow. Cup perhaps?

I just thought this whole scenario was not a good one having a playpark in the middle of the pub garden and that these kids had no shoes on!! I would say Im quote a chilled out parent but everytime they ran past me I wanted to shout put your shoes on

I am assuming the couple with the dog are adult. they should know better than to wee on the grass in front of children... did both adults do this or just one?

A bit of dog pee is the least of a shoeless child's worries in a pub beer garden.

So dog owners are now no longer allowed to take their pets on even the APPROACH to anywhere a child may possibly go?!

Kids should have had shoes on - if you make the choice to let them run around barefoot - the world does not have to revolve around that whim of yours.

i agree that kids should have shoes on in a beer garden. However, I don't think dogs should pee in a beer garden either. Sympathise with the difficulty of controlling where your dog wees (though if you train it as a puppy - as with assistance dogs, then you can train it to wee on command and therefore get it to empty its bladder before you get into a shared environment.)

Aha... I knew this would come up sooner or later. There was a thread a few weeks back about people peeing outdoors and many posters said, "dogs do it, what's the difference?". So there we are...

being honest I think it was the no shoes thing that I noticed first and then the couple with the dog sort of made it a bit worse. I agree with the fact that the kids should have had shoes on. As mentioned I have nothing against dogs and up until recently had one myself who used to cock his leg when the urge took him!

But the title of this thread is 'Aibu to think that people with digs should have a bit more consideration', NOT 'Aibu to think that some parents should have a bit of wit' so you obviously thought the dog owners were at fault when you posted.

Children should have had shoes on but equally dogs shouldn't be peeing where people are eating and drinking. And if that's a pub garden then so be it.

It's not ideal. If they had just got out of the car they could have anticipated the dog would need to pee/poo and walking him a bit first. But it's not always possible to know when a dog might decide to pee and they could have just come from a long walk and thought he was finished.

But I agree with the others, a pub garden is not the place to run around without shoes. You can't guarentee that any public place is free from urine, germs, spit (my pet hate is people spitting in public), vomit, etc and in a pub garden you can expect the risk of finding some/all of that and broken glass thrown in as well.

Dog owners usually do their best to clean up after their pet and I agree if a pub has a playground area then it should be fenced off from the rest of the beer garden to keep children safe from broken glass and dog urine etc. But shoes are still a good idea, especially if the children are running around outside of the play area.
