in the hopes they don't notice my dodgy food?

I have friends over for dinner tonight, but the house is a state, dinner is looking decidely sub master chef and I am worried it will all be pants.

If i set them up with a large glass of booze when they set foot through the door will they notice??

YANBU

FakePlasticTrees · 30/04/2011 17:58

posted too soon! Meant to add, when you're trying to get someone drunk, don't actually ever let them empty their glass, keep topping it up (even if it's just an extra mouthful being added) so they don't know how much they've had... oh, and can you just order takeaway?

thinbridewaitingtogetout · 30/04/2011 17:58

what are you cooking? and ynbu.

Nosleeptillgodknowswhen · 30/04/2011 17:59

I did figure this might be one AIBU which wasn't contraversial!

YANBU - it would be far worse to go to dinner where not enough drink was on offer Grin

Nosleeptillgodknowswhen · 30/04/2011 18:02

Am cooking this www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/roast_salmon_with_dill_26605

And this

www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/kashmiripilaf_90028

And a nigella chickpea dip thing for starters that has turned out to be a bit tasteless.

Pudding is cheesecake and apple tart after a choc mousse disaster.

I don't even like salmon but one friend is pseudo veggie.

Yanbu. Get smashed! Have u got lots of nibbley bits that are quite salty? That will make them drink more & fill them up a bit!

Nosleeptillgodknowswhen · 30/04/2011 18:22

Am glad i didn't share bath with dc 3 (15m) to save time as he has just pooed in it.

YANBU - it's what I do. Lot's of kettle crisps and peanuts and they'll be drinking you dry and won't notice if you serve them spaghetti hoops on toast!

Nosleeptillgodknowswhen · 30/04/2011 18:30

Yes crisps and mini poppudums to hand....

Actually, guess it doen't matter if they dn't get sloshed as long as I get sloshed enough not to care! Grin

What? No pombears? Grin

Tolalola · 30/04/2011 18:52

YADNBU. I find that having ready a large jug of some yummy and potent cocktail or punch helps.

Grumpla · 30/04/2011 18:54

YANBU and feel free to invite me to make up the numbers, I have no dinner in the house so I'm not picky!

Nosleeptillgodknowswhen · 30/04/2011 19:02

Was hoping to get out to pick up some pimms but DH not back yet from 300k cycle and taking the baby to buy booze in his PJs is not a good look.

Pom bears - the canape of choice! Must have some in cupboard somewhere.

You sound like my kind of hostess! Smile

A generous hand with the booze is the key to a successful evening, imo.

EmmaBemma · 30/04/2011 19:09

YANBU. Just don't do what I always do when I'm less than happy with my efforts - don't slag off your food in the hope it will pre-empt criticism, it'll just make people notice things they might have missed otherwise!

Southcoastsarah · 30/04/2011 19:44

just dont complain if they vomit into the pot plant :)

Nosleeptillgodknowswhen · 30/04/2011 19:46

No pot plants.....

A good night doesn't or shouldn't rely on great food and a tidy house!

A nice host and lots of alcohol sounds fab to me!

Nosleeptillgodknowswhen · 01/05/2011 10:27

No one vomited - maybe not enough drink??

But food was ok, no one made it into the messy lounge, and the food was actually ok. Bot difficult either so i recommend both recipes!

Thanks for the support. Sorry grumpia no left overs.
