who only come once a fortnight and give us back any bags that go over the top of our one not huge wheelie bin could have turned up and emptied the bloody thing today also plastic tins and food recycling day so those will be overflowing soon and the food will start to break down into a gunky smelly mess

I was just about to come on and agree how fantastic our bin men, 2 bank holidays in a row they have worked here.

Just shows it depends where you live.
food recycling should be ok should it, just like a compost bin.

Tortoise · 29/04/2011 16:15

Ours due today, will be Sunday instead. They always take any extra bags I put out and if I haven't put the wheelie bin out, one has been know to come down my path and collect it. Can't complain about my bin men.

COCKadoodledooo · 29/04/2011 16:20

I've yet to venture down the drive to find out if ours have been today (should have been yesterday, but were a day late due to Monday's bank holiday). They won't empty bins that have the lid open due to being overfull, or take bags balanced on the top of the bin, but if you leave extra black sacks by the side then they will, since that's so different Hmm

They're generally pretty good though, and since I asked them once (politely) not to block my exit with the recycling truck they never have again.

Incidentally you shouldn't be getting grungy food waste in your recycling boxes because only clean stuff should be put in there.

stoatie · 29/04/2011 16:58

ours came today - didn't have any days off over Easter/bank hols at all

zisforzebra · 29/04/2011 16:59

DH had to run out and put ours out earlier when we heard them coming down the road. Usually the collection is pushed back a day when there's been a bank holiday but they've just collected as usual over easter this year. At christmas we usually end up going for about 3 weeks with no collection though.

Cockadoodle Re the gungy food waste, I think Issey meant the food recycling bin rather than the bottles and cans bin.

issey6cats · 29/04/2011 18:10

sorry didnt clarify yes food waste in seperate food bin but it does start to break down in this warm weather and will smell soon and we have foxes round here so the little buggers will get into it, the recycling here is a joke you can put milk containers but not yoghurt pots in the plastic, they wont take garden clippings we have to take them to the tip center in town, they wont take cardboard only plain paper and magazines wont take newspaper, and food waste has to go into those horrid little breakdown compostable bags which are revolting to tie up and take from the little plastic box to the big plastic box, can understand why some folk dont bother

Well, it is a bank holiday. Ours don't work bank holidays, we get a sticker on the bin advising us of any bank holidays and what day our collection will be made on.

TheMonster · 29/04/2011 18:20

issey, is it that your council can only recycle plastic with numbers 1-3 on the base? That's like ours, and yoghurt pots are usually number 5.

DramaInPyjamas · 29/04/2011 18:23

Our binmen work holidays - and always empty the overflowing-with-bags bins as well.
AND they take wheely bin back round to the garden as well once they have finished

[hearts] binmen

COCKadoodledooo · 29/04/2011 18:41

See what you mean, sorry Blush

Ours used to Drama, but when we stopped having a district council and went to a big county supercouncil job, everything went to cock.

issey6cats · 29/04/2011 18:57

body of eyeore yes they will only take the harder type plastic wont take soft stuff like yoghurt pots and the containers that asda seems to wrap everything from cakes to meat in so a lot of it goes in the bin anyway cockadoodle no probs i didnt make it clear and it is only a bank holiday today cos of the royal wedding will just hope they come tommorow as even with only 3 of us in the house and flatteneing everything and recycling as much as i can the bin aint big enough i always end up with one bag to many luckily the old guy a couple of doors away lets us put that one bag into his bin

We don't use the kerbside recycling cause it is a pain in the bum and we recycle loads so it doesn't fit in the box. We just do tip runs once a fortnight or so instead.

Do you have a car? I'd take it yourself if yes.
