Why the suggestion "Show him/her this thread" has become a popular idea?

Won't it just remove a refuge and place explore/dicuss/analyse the situation the OP finds themselves? Do people really think that by just showing someone posts by complete strangers commenting on their situation is going to be enough to bring about a change? Really, is that all it is going to take?

I have been around awhile regular name changer.

I have a sneaking suspicion the threads only get shown to them if everyone agrees with the OP

It seems odd to me. Most non-message-board users think message-board users are a bit weird and sad. And message-board users tend to think all other message-boards are rubbish.

I don't tell ANYONE I post on here and I change my name farly often....
And I agree with worraliberty...
