To put a note in ds's nursery friends bag asking for a playdate?

ds1 is 3 years old & goes to nursery 2 days a week. He always talks about his friend Alex & the other week at a kiddies party I met Alex's mum. She seemed nice & we spoke about how much the boys seem to like each other. would it be unreasonable to bite the bullet & pop a note in alex's bag with my phone number on it, asking if he wants to come over one day to play? I hardly know the mum so it feels a bit weird & forward iykwim!

I'd pop a note in saying do you fancy coming over for a coffee (with Alex, obv) as 3 too young for 'playdate' IMHO

No reason why not. I did this with children who's parents weren't at drop off or pick up and it went fine.

Yes, I do that, pop a note in inviting them over. I always start with DS1 or2 would love [insert childs name] to come over to play, insert phone number and then sign off with look forward to seeing you soon.

I wouldn't let my 3 year old go on their own and would prefer to be asked directly to be honest or meet you first.

I would offer to do either coffee / cake whilst the children play or playdates. I was surprised here, how many children seem to do playdates unaccompanied, even at three. I've been having one little girl come on the occasional unaccompanied playdate since last year, and she's not 4 until may. But, other mums would be distinctly uncomfortable with leaving their children alone at this age. Particularly if it is a first born. I know my eldest didn't do unaccompanied playdates until she was in reception, whereas DD2 doesn't start school until September, and she has been doing them for a year already!
