council have changed collection day and i forgot to move the bin off the end of my drive onto street

Prior to them changing day, old bin men would take bin regardless of whether or not I moved it off end of drive as its only 2ft further and no gate

There is a note on my bin, still full of rubbish that they have not emptied it as it must be on the street.

IMO they are being VU

LOL at dustbin police!!

diabolo · 19/04/2011 18:24

I thought local councils (or was it David Cameron? Confused, had promised to stop this sort of thing a few weeks ago?

Totally stupid isn't it?

SauvignonBlanche · 19/04/2011 18:25

How annoying!
They walked up to it to put the note on. Hmm

KnickersOnOnesHead · 19/04/2011 18:26

It's stupid. If my bin lid is open even a crack they will not take it! 8 fucking weeks it took me off ringing them every day to empty the thing....they did, eventually.

*of, not off Blush

It is ridiculous. Ours used to be exactly the same, yet the rules never seemed to apply to them cleaning up the crap that they spilt on the roads while doing their job.

Our pavements are narrow, and putting the bins out does block the pavements.

Luckily, we seem to have better men doing the job now, as if they come really early and the bin isnt out, they do pull it off the drive and empty it.

I still remember the good old days, before wheelie bins and black bags.. when the bin men actually walked through to the back of your houses to get the bins..

merrywidow · 19/04/2011 18:29

They have sent all sorts of notes round recently about recycling etc, which apparently they cannot leagally enforce because if one bit of our rubbish ends up in landfill they are not keeping up their side of contract.

AND, now everyones confused as to which day they are coming, so now there are bins on the street making the place look a mess for a couple of days

How unhelpful. My dustbin men (and they are all men) are useless. Its only fortnightly collections, and they generally leave a trail of unpicked up rubbish behind them, or the bin lying on its side, blocking my driveway. When its snowy, they don't uplift rubbish at all. For 6 weeks. Even then they only collected one bin full and not the other brown bin full of rubbish accumulated during the 6 weeks. Oh, and they get paid overtime if they don't manage their collections on time, so its in their own interests not to collect when its snowy.

IMHO its too much fuss and bother for a fortnightly collection. I'd rather they do as in Spain, where you take your rubbish to a central point. Did this during the snow and it was much better.

They really are bloody useless. Considering so much of the job is automated and all they really have to do is push the bin to the bottom of the lorry, hook it on and then push it back. Thats it, and one drives. Yet they need a team of 4 to do the job. Any groom in the horse industry puts them to shame!
