DS2 has had a rash on and off for a couple of weeks, the last 3 days he has not wanted any clothes on. I put it down to a heat rash.

Today I looked at it and it was dry and looked sore so I took him to the GP, who informed me it was in fact infected eczema Sad. He had no sign of eczema until a month ago when he was diagnosed with it.

Because I didn't take him sooner he now has oilatum shower gel, fucidin H cream, diprobase cream and piriton I feel so bad that I didn't know what it was.

Hey don't beat yourself up about it, how were you to know?

But, you know now and can do your best to help relieve the pain/soreness for him.

I just feel shitty that I didn't realise what it was, it is so different to my eczema. his legs sides and now his arms are getting covered in it.

You didnt know. Now you do, you can care for him. It will be okay

How could you have known? In any case, you've no way of knowing that the GP would have got you to do anything much different from what you did. I've been in to my GP and been told to wait and see if it clears up on its own, he might have said the same at an early stage.

I had to take him back from the Dr's today as the eczema is getting worse and spreading. Dr diagnosed infected atopic eczema. and prescribed Eurax cream, hydrocortisone, and to continue with the usual - oilatum shower gel etc.

At 18 months, my DD's nappy started smelling a bit....musty. Not bad, just musty. We put it down to a change in diet. Then she got a temperature, which we put down to a cold coming on. It was only when we took her to A&E in the night when her temperature became really bad that they told us she had cystitis :( How rubbish did we feel? Incredibly.

You can read all the baby books you like, but at the end of the day a large part of parenting is trial and error. You'll know next time.

TLES. You weren't to know. May DC's your DS2 age just want to run around nekked in this heat and heat rash would make sense.

FWIW I find eurax cream highly effective - cures my DS itch from hives quickly.

Don't beat yourself up.
