Neighbours - rant!

AIBU to expect my neighbours to let me know they are going to be putting up a new fence and will be trampling all over my flower bed in order to put the posts in? They have also cut down a young self seeded elm tree on my side, moved my trellis damaging a climbing rose that was a present to me, and cut back other shrubs in my flower bed. I am soooo mad and need to take a chill pill!

No. You don't need to chill. You need to go round there and ask them what they are going to do to put right the damage they have caused.

TheMonster · 17/04/2011 21:35

YANBU. Bill them for the damage.

I would be f*cking livid in this scenario.

For the sake of neighbourly relations I would wait until I had calmed down (a bit) before speaking to them even though you are well within your rights to be furious. But you have to live next door to them so take a deep breath (or few) and then go round to see them, explain why you are upset at the damage they have caused and see what they say.

I would expect a large amount of grovelling, them to put right the damage (although you may not want this given the fact that they might well cause more) and them to pay to replace any plants that have been damaged.

Do you have photos of what the garden looked like before this? If so they may be helpful if the neighbours are awkward to prove what has changed

They have been 'neighbours from hell' for the last year. Having asked them politely to stop trampling over my flower bed and pointed out the damage they just laughed and said 'well it's done now innit' - I will definitely be billing them.

YANBU I'd be fuming. Why the hell should you chill when these idiots have vandalised your property? You should go round and politely demand ask them when they are going to fix what they've wrecked. If they do nothing bill the bastards for the damage.
