my friends dd who is also my dd's friend has come down with the chicken pox.

She is fine in herself other than the spots and so I said she could come and play for a bit yesterday while her mum did some paperwork (she works from home)

My dd and myself have both had chicken pox and so I didnt see the harm? However, I've had a barrage of abuse from my mother about it saying I could get shingles and so could dd and that she wouldnt come round while the child was here either (not that she was invited anyway!)

If the spots have mostly scabbed over already then there will be little risk, or unless you have a low immune system yourself.

but can you catch shingles from a child with c.pox? Am worried now!

You don't get shingles from contact with cp - it is due to the dormant virus recurring, often when stressed or tired.

thats what I thought too - but my mum kept on and on about how I would get shingles and so would dd and I was being very selfish.

I am always knackered(!), but not run down

so can it even be triggered by c pox then?

No, you cannot get shingles from cp.

You can get cp from shingles though.

Silly. You can't catch shingles from chicken pox. You and your DD will be fine.

You can, however, catch CP more than once.

ah, hadnt realised that visitor - but then theres always c pox going round at school and dd spent 4 years at nursery with it constantly doing the rounds so I will keep my fingers crossed.

I caught my second dose of CP at the grand old age of 33 from a poxy child who came into the shop I worked at.

I think the confusion is that older people were told that it was the other way round, shingles from cp, but not cp from shingles. My mum and I have had this discussion many a time as she is adamant that she is right and I am saying that that isn't the medical advice we have been given, so it is a generational thing I reckon!

Exposure to CP prevents shingles (reminds your immune system to make antibodies against that virus), your mum is completely confused. That's why shingles is on the increase, because people with CP are so strictly quarantined or get vaxed against CP so not enough wild cp circulating to prevent many shingles cases.

confused, hmmmm, yes that is one word for my mother LOL

I will stop worrying about it now, and if I was going to catch CP a second time (or dd for that matter) it could happen anywhere, plus I am a primary teacher so reckon I've been exposed a few times over the last 10 years anyway at work.
