Bloody hell...easter bonnet by thurs and I work all day. How the hell am I supposed to get stuff for that? AIBU in thinking some teachers are in a dream world about how easy it is for us to get stuff at short notice.

Asda have loads of things that you could decorate any hat with, I've justbstuck loads on one of DD old hats.

onlion · 12/04/2011 09:02

I dont have any hats. Looks like a late run to some supermarket, there goes bed time for ds

get a normal hat/cap, cut flowers or chicks out of coloured paper and glue/staple on to hat/cap

but yes, 2 days notice is rubbish - sounds like my dd's school. I still dont know whether she has homework to do over easter since they post it on the door of the classroom on a friday (when I am at work and dont pick her up, grrr sorry hijacking rant over)

mycatoscar · 12/04/2011 09:03

okay, make one out of newspaper?

mycatoscar · 12/04/2011 09:04

do your children seriously not have any hats at all? Not even sunhats?

onlion · 12/04/2011 09:07

My ds has a couple of spiderman/batman type ones which are highly patterned but not that could be spared or decorated iykwim

onlion · 12/04/2011 09:09

Its awfully embarrassing when you are a totally non crafty parent.

YANBU. Working parents need a weekend so that they can get to the shops.

We've had 3 days notice for a St George costume, 2 days for World Book Day (yes I knew when it was, but they didn't dress up last year), 1 day for "something spotty" for Children in Need.

I'm in a school where lots of mums don't work, and I think the teachers don't realise that some of us do.

If you can get to a supermarket they'll have Easter crafty stuff and cheap sunhats. Apply one to other.

Do you work in an office? Can you steal paper?

There are lots of "how to make paper hats" online.

I work and managed to make an easter bonnet last week. All I had to buy was some tissue paper (from local newsagents) and a stapler. If you have cereal boxes, empty toilet roll, newspaper, wrapping paper knocking about the house then it's dead easy to knock something simple up. For example a crown with cardboard easter eggs stuck on it etc....

keepingeverythingcrossed · 12/04/2011 10:01

Early learning center have some make your own type. Any chance you could pop in there at lunchtime and pick one up?

NestaFiesta · 12/04/2011 10:06

A pink poundland hen night cowboy hat with screwed up balls of tissue stuck round it= my son's easter hat. However YANBU to be miffed at short notice from schools. I am a SAHM/homeworker and they gave us 24 hours notice once to find a costume. I refused to buy one especially (no money) so son got vague approximation of outfit. Parents need a weekend to obtain stuff not a couple of school nights.

Mumcentreplus · 12/04/2011 10:28

Pound-land!..they sell the hats & chicks etc etc I know some in London open till after 6pm

SkinittingFluffyBunnyBonnets · 12/04/2011 10:42

Use cardboard to make a sort of headband...sellotape it so it fits DS head....cover it in coloured paper or aint it in green....use cotton wool to make little blobs whch are lambs and then stick them onto the band...draw legs and heads with black marker....have the marching all around the band....if you can get coloured tissue or even weet wrappers you can crumple them up to make flowers to add....

All this needs is card (cereal packet with the writing on the inside)
cotton wool (available from all nigght shops)
Black pen
Sellotape
Glue
Tissue or sweet wrappers

SkinittingFluffyBunnyBonnets · 12/04/2011 10:43

Make the headband wide-ish...like a crown with no pointy bits...have it sit on his fringe area.

burntsienna · 12/04/2011 12:06

If this is a regular annoyance, why don't you write to the school and ask them not to expect fancy dress and the like without a weekend in between.

MikeOxstiff · 12/04/2011 13:38

Have you tried Easter Bonnets Rus
