Polite Notice

AIBU to hate this phrase? Surely a notice is a notice and I will decide whether I think it is polite or not. Saying something unreasonable, but putting "Polite Notice" above it doesn't make it ok. If you are saying something reasonable then why put it?

Because the message although not written is "but no offence meant" .... In that polite notice only 2 school children at once could actually be polite notice only 2 school children at once as some of you will nick things but no offence to the nice innocent kids who use my store.

I think these started to appear outside people's houses to stop people parking across driveways and such.
Polite notice when glanced at quickly looks very much like police notice.

LaWeasel · 10/04/2011 10:29

It always irratates me when it is followed by an outstandingly rude notice, with no please or thank you etc.

hairylights · 10/04/2011 10:31

Yanbu. It irritates me too.

JaneS · 10/04/2011 12:58

Grin Sorry, I do totally agree but your post made me smile!

YouaretooniceNOT · 10/04/2011 17:14

if you notice this notice, you'll notice, this notice is not worth noticing.

dolldaggabuzzbuzz · 10/04/2011 17:18

With respect, I don't mean to be rude or anything, but here is a Polite Notice. No offence.

colditz · 10/04/2011 17:24

It's because it can be mistaken for 'Police Notice' and more likely to be obeyed.

penguin73 · 10/04/2011 17:28

Ditto what Colditz says, the idea is people glance at it and read it as 'police notice' hence believe it is legally enforceable. Not quite as effective now that everyone does it and people are used to seeing them but I think it was quite effective once.

AgentZigzag · 10/04/2011 17:31

It's just instead of an emoticon.

But I did open the thread having read the title thinking Hmm

You see 'polite notice' and know the info underneath is going to be shitty Grin
