Does anyone recommend any of the private IVF clinics?
My friend is 42 and now needs to go private (NHS have dropped her due to age) but some are very expensive. And heard a few find ways to keep adding up the bill. She's not rich.
London based. But she's willing to travel.
Heard Spain has good ones too.

I recommend CARE in Nottingham as they have good success rates iwth older mums (I had 3 x ivf (icsi) at my local private clinic and then transferred to nottingham for my 4th successful one) and they also do some experimental treatments that aren't available everywhere. However, travelling a long way is something to consider (I had aa 6 hour round trip for a 10 minute blood test once).

I think spain is popular for donor eggs as availability is better.

I wish your friend lots of luck

The Lister! Great with older women/poor responders etc.

tholeon · 03/04/2011 20:07

CRGH is very good and has great success rates. But am not sure this is an AIBU! Suggest she goes to fertility.friends.co.uk - there's a lot of info there.

Agree that the Lister is supposed to be particularly good for older ladies.

Care Nottingham were amazing.

I had my dtwins at 35 there. Their FET results were very good.My boys were frozen for a year and very ropey embryos yet somehow they managed to defrost and coax life into them.I truely believe at a lesser clinic they wouldn't have made the defrost. If the FET results are good she'll get more chances iykwim.

They were sooo thorough, left no stone unturned, very understanding etc. They offered free counselling too which was a god send.

I second iwantpizza- the lister (alison taylor/marie wren particularly) are very good and well respected by others in the field

piedpiper4 · 03/04/2011 20:37

Denmark is very good too.

DaphneHeartsFred · 03/04/2011 20:39

No personal experience, but SIL & DB went to Nottingham and say it was fantastic. And they now have gorgeous twins!

I'd recommend the Herts and Essex Fertility centre.
They assisted me in having my DS when they were still based in Buckhurst Hill. They have since moved to Cheshunt, so I don't know what the new site is like - but the staff and doctors are great and the level of support was brilliant from the first moment I contacted them through to the end of my pregnancy.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow · 03/04/2011 21:35

My personal recommendation is The Cromwell Hospital in Kensington.

It's expensive but you used to be able to pay £10,000 upfront and get 3 IVF's for that if necessary.

TheseThingsAreGoodThings · 03/04/2011 21:59

Another one for the Lister. I was 41 and got pg with twins first time round. Though it is a lottery - she may not be so successful.

It is a hard emotional slog - so she need to prepared.

They have a very good success calculator on their website which I would recommend they look at.

Thanks all.

Create Health for low stimulation IVF. Lister for the usual drug regime IVF.

To be brutally honest, your friend has a very small window of opportunity of two years. The success rate of stimulated IVF at 44 (own eggs) is practically zero. At 42, she will probably need far more drugs to respond, than a woman in her thirties. The drugs are truly expensive. IVF is a bottomless pit if it doesn't work and you end up chasing ever diminishing stats.

An AMH test to estimate ovarian reserve, would be a good idea before the expense of full IVF. Good luck to your friend.

Nancy66 · 03/04/2011 22:40

I would also suggest she tries the lister.

Her best bet is to look at a site called fertility friends - which has loads of details of overseas clinics. Czech Republic is much cheaper than UK as is Cyprus and Greece.

bemybebe · 03/04/2011 22:43

Nuffield Woking has very good results (30mins mainline from Waterloo) or Lister came very highly recommended. Do not know how they compare costwise.

andiem · 03/04/2011 22:46

The lister or if she is looking at Spain Instituet marques in Barcelona they are fab

Earlybird · 03/04/2011 23:19

You mention your friend only (nothing to indicate there is a dh/dp), and say 'she is not rich'.

Does this mean she is single?

It has been 10 years since I had fertility treatment, but at that point, the Lister would not accept single women for treatment. FYI.
