The Mumsnet magic 'e'

Do MNers add an 'e' to the word 'shiny' on purpose? Is it ironic? Or do they not know?

Obviously, I don't mean the Shiney, or references to her or the Shiney threads. I see 'shiney' used all over the place, used to describe sparkly, gleaming things.

Has MN affected our spelling in any other way?

Wunk?

What was that about I missed it?

LoopyLoopsChupaChups · 01/04/2011 22:36

I see random 'e's all over the place I tell you.

If something is shiny or sparkly it is shiny.

If you are talking about the person, she is Shiney.

If you see Shiney a lot you may think that she is so important that the first word should be spelled to match her. This is not true.

Just from today and yesterday:

shiney sink

shiney car

shiney hair

... the list goes on!

They are just lazey

I'm dyslexic, and my spelling is terrible and I struggle to visualise words - my Ed Pych report actually says 'adds an 'e' in words where they are not appropriate and where they don't phonetically fit' Grin

Only now I'm an adult do I actually notice how true it is. Blush

Oh. I thought (inexplicably) this was going to be about drugs.

Agent-[wunk] was a mis-spelling by Chaos one day, that has kind of hung around a bit-obviously meant a Wink!!!

LoopyLoopsChupaChups · 02/04/2011 00:27

I like wunk, I hadn't noticed it before!

Aw Sad

Is that it happymm?

No fantastically interesting story behind it?

Could you not have made one up or something?

(thanks though)
