everytime I call my mum she starts going on and on about people's illnesses. If I ring her up to tell her something important she spends at least 20 minutes going through her list of illness updates which she's saved to tell me - "oo Aaron has been having trouble with his back you know - oh and Phil, he's had to go to doctors about his foot. Lydia has been having trouble with her stomach again, I think she should go to doctors, don't you? oh and did you hear about Martin? he went and cut himself at work and they think it might be infected ...... "

Is it really shelfish of me to try and change the subject whenever the illness talk starts?? sometimes i'll call later in the day and she'll automatically assume I'm calling for an update on these people! i know it sounds awful bbut half the time it sounds like she actually ENJOYS talking about this stuff.

YABU.

I was on the phone to my dad and as he wittered on and on about cars I was struck by how much I'll miss it when he's gone.

Sorry.

It is your daughterly duty to listen to the rubbish your mother spouts. Your DCs will hopefully do the same for you when you're old and potty. It happens to everyone. Suck it up.

And you look more like a prawn to me.

it's weird, i know someone like that. when my mum died she wanted to know all the ins and outs and how old she was etc. was annoying

MotherNight · 31/03/2011 21:02

YANBU, my old manager used to spend a great deal of time explaining how I knew so and so, though I didn't think I did.
Oh sure you did, you know X, X who comes in on a Tuesday with Y, is related to B, always comes in and buys stamps, yes you know, well you know her son, married to that women who comes in for the videos... etc etc fucking etc.
I'd finally figure out who he meant and he'd say; yep, they're dead.
Every Saturday.
He just loved talking about it.

DaisyChain721 · 31/03/2011 21:05

YANBU. My mother does the same thing but about money instead. She'll go on and on about how much money she is losing from hours being cut, how on earth is she going to live on it, she has no idea how we are going to cope if she can't. She is going to lose her car, We may lose our house, what are we going to do..blah blah blah i actually feel like joining her hysteria and screaming "were all going to die!!" down the phone Grin

By the way, her money issues are not that bad at all, nor are ours but she has to do that talk for the first 20 minutes of every phonecall!! It depresses me!!

WriterofDreams · 31/03/2011 21:12

Lol I was waiting for the penny to drop Grin

Keep listening to your poor mum. As own mum witters on says "You'll get your reward in heaven"
