OK so it's not life and death stuff, but all you really need to say is: "Sorry we're not here, please leave a message" or similar.

NOT: "Sorry X, Y and can't take your call at the moment, but please any messages after the tone. Alternatively if you'd like to call us on our mobiles, X's number is blah blah blah, and Y's mobile number is blah blah blah. Thank you for calling and we'll get back to you soon. "

*including babes in arms who don't even know what a fucking phone is.

YANBU. I have to get the voicemail on my phone switched off by the phone company and I haven't. At the moment my message explains this, tells the caller I hate voicemail and to leave a message if they can be bovvered...

I hate it. Answerphones are such a waste of my time.

I don't need to be reminded by mrs O2 how to leave a message. And i DO NOT need to be told "when you have finished recording your message, please hang up" what do you think i was going to do?
She says is as slowly as possible, just to use up my free minutes. The bitch.

And I know who I am ringing, and when it goes to answerphone I have just worked out for myself that they are 'unable to take the call', I don't need to be reminded of it all again before i can leave a massage.

YANBU and for the record kids on answerphones aren't sweet either, just usually plain annoying.

YANBU - apart from the bit about listing mobile numbers. The amount of times that little gem would have saved me so much frustration!
