Every quarter they try to put my Direct Debit up to far more than the bill, and every month I have to TRY to get through to someone who can help. Most of the time I just get their 'automated service' which sends me round in circles. I am thinking of cancelling my DD and just paying the bill outright. They are driving me insane and I HATE them with a vengeance - I wish I'd stayed with Pipex!

If you have an account on their website you can adjust your Direct Debit payment yourself. Have you tried that?

I didn't know that Chil - will look into it, thank you.

Why don't you change your DD to 'pay in full' every month. That's what I did when they kept putting my DD up to £60 a month when we only rented the line as had a talk package with Sky.

I also hate BT. They charged £130 for a line connection that took all of 30 secs to flick a switch and keep adding on charges for features that we don't even have as we are with Sky so don't need any of their features! Angry

Yes they are YADNBU. Is your bill supposed to be a fixed amount each month or does it vary? If it is supposed to be fixed you could convert to a standing order and then only you can amend the amount. If it varies I would definitely pay outright and retain control over your money.

I would also change my bill to the actual amount I owe rather than an average figure. Makes it easier in the long run.

strictly £130 is a standard amount for a connection charge from any company, not just BT. BT had to sell off the exchanges (as Offcom dictated) so they could have a level playing field with other providers. BT used to have 2 line connection charges, one for the 'just flicking a switch' and one for a move from another provider but they're not allowed to have that now.
