TOO MUCH INFORMATION ON DIRECTORY ENQUIRIES

AIBU to be pi$$ed off at this??

Just looked up a number for someone and realised that it also gave her age and occupation. So checked and yes all my info is on there as well.

Am I alone in not wanting someone just to type my surname and town and find out this info on me - even though I'm ex-directory??

Looks like they get info from electoral roll.

I just looked myself and my husband up on directory enquiries and couldn't find us (we're ex-directory). But regardless, yes, you have every right to be pissed that your age and occupation are there. Even more so if ex-directory.

You can opt out of the published electoral roll - just have to tick a box on the registration form if you don't want your details published.
(I hate how easy it is to find out everything too - even down to how much people paid for their houses - that is the downside of the internet - but there are lots of good sides to the internet too)

Wow just checked my name doesn't come up with anything but dp's name comes up with our full address, tel no and how much we bought our house for and the moving date!! Is that allowed? Bit shocked though I don't really know what anyone would do with that info.

BoobopTallullah · 30/03/2011 14:30

And I opted us both out on the electoral roll form. Hmm

When you register to vote you don't give your age (unless you're just under 18, or over 70 which is to do with being eligible for jury service), and you don't give your occupation details.

So this isn't gleaned from the electoral roll.
