To think completing the census form is no big deal?

I know people who've binned it as it's a nuisance and have a concern about not wanting the government to know anything about them ("It's like big brother!").

AIBU to think they should just get on with it? No personal data is released and it's requested by parliament, not government.

lol well if they don't do it they will have someone like me knocking on their door in a few weeks time!
and they could end up being fined.

poorbuthappy · 27/03/2011 21:43

I did mine this afternoon and for 5 of us it took 10 mins.
I am also a collector like thisisyesterday so may be knocking on your door in the next few weeks!

TrillianAstra · 27/03/2011 21:44

I would like to join you in saying "Bloody well get on with it." but I'm not sure I want this thread on 'Threads I'm On'.

It's not an evil conspriacy. It doesn't take very long. Just get on with it.

hardhatdonned · 27/03/2011 21:45

YANBU it's something that has been done since the dawn of time just fill the sodding form in and be done with it.

They can find more about you from your clubcard then they can from the sodding census anyway!

AuntiePickleBottom · 27/03/2011 21:47

the census is important data for the government, it helps decide if a town or city needs more school, bigger/smaller hospital ect.

so i would say just get on with it

Squitten · 27/03/2011 21:49

Yep, I'm also in the "get the hell on with it" camp. Was so quick online this evening so really don't see the fuss.

But then I'm not generally arrogant enough to assume that my meagre activities are on the Government's surveillance list...

smileymam · 29/03/2011 12:46

i see no problem with it either, quite enjoyed filling it out actually lol

Kewcumber · 29/03/2011 12:48

it took me 5 mins online - hardly asks your inside leg measurement or your preferred sexual position. And besides I have used old census data to trace family tree and rather like the odea of someone caring enough to do that baout me one day.

2blessed2bstressed · 29/03/2011 12:53

Same here Kewcumber....got quite caught up in the idea of great great grandchildren looking up me and dcs!

NinkyNonker · 29/03/2011 14:06

Yanbu.

MrsH75 · 29/03/2011 14:11

YANBU. What an almighty fuss people make about nothing.

Chil1234 · 29/03/2011 14:14

YANBU... It's hardly 'Big Brother' or even a nuisance to expect everyone to do one solitary bit of admin once every 10 years. ID cards I don't like. DNA databases are just creepy. But owning up to your main language and whether you have gas ch is unlikely to get a SWAT team staking your house out, is it?

Real anarchists would fill it in and then move house... that'll show 'em!

foxter · 29/03/2011 14:15

Agree with everything Chil1234 said.

FreudianSlippery · 29/03/2011 14:17

YANBU it's just a few tick boxes and so on... No big deal at all! DH filled it in this time as I was out, filled in my part when I got in, posted it on Monday. Hardly strenuous!

Some people just like to complain about anything

bruffin · 29/03/2011 14:31

I don't get why people make a big deal about it. They use it to work out what services are required locally ie school places etc.

Lollybrolly · 29/03/2011 14:36

who is making a big deal out of it?

i have seen more threads and replies to threads like this than I have from people on about not wanting to complete it.

thisisyesterday · 29/03/2011 16:04

plenty of people make a fuss about it, hence the need to make it compulsory, and the need to hire people to be census collectors who ahve to go and try and make those who haven't done it do it!

EssexGurl · 29/03/2011 16:22

I was quite disappointed that it was so boring to complete! The only contentious issue I found was about your national identity. Not me and DH but how we apply it to DCs (5 and 2). I always say English and he says British. I filled it in, so me and the kids are English. His says British.

gowest1 · 29/03/2011 16:53

Not much fun though having to fill one out for your deceased mum though.
